The Wi-Fi Upgrade was a Relief

For me, the Club wi-fi broadband speed is very important. Having read several poor reviews in this regard, I was prepared for the worst! However, to my surprise, it was excellent The Club really ought to revise the rating for the wi-fi at this site from bronze to gold plus ASAP. On pitch no. 2 the TV signal was non-existent. It way have been better elsewhere on the site. I enjoyed walking along the desert rats route and reading the information boards along the way. I certainly recommend this site for a quiet getaway.

Good site - well worth a few nights

A very nice site, peaceful apart from the US Airforce whizzing overhead now and then but we didn’t find that a problem, in fact some of the treetop flying is quite impressive to watch. We set up in one of the glades, on a grass pitch, which we found was a good choice for deer and bird watching. Site staff were very helpful, it's worth asking them about walking and cycle routes to avoid the A1065. (we did a couple of longish rides around the local lanes and villages and found a nice back route to Swaffham on quiet roads which I have posted on the OS app). On reaching the site on the A1065 we couldn’t see any site direction signs, so look out for the tank memorial and a couple of flag poles. We did see a couple of vans go into the Forestry Commission car park by mistake. Avoid that! I note the CC site access statement tells arrivals "the site is easily accessed off a wide Forestry Commission road" as the road into the car park is alongside a large Forestry Commission sign I can understand why mistakes are made and perhaps that advice could be reviewed. You need to follow the concrete road past the oil drums ignoring the no HGV signs and the red and white site gates are just down on the right. Good site and well worth a few nights.

Will be staying again

this site is a lovely site to unwind at (as long as the USAF helicopters are not flying) We only stayed for 1 night ,but will be back for a longer stay in the near future. It is a good site for dogs as long as you are aware this is adder country. there are plenty of walks and of course it was where the desert rats trained in the 2nd world war. There is no toilet block . There is plenty to do and see in the local area . Lastly but not least the wardens were very friendly ,an asset to the club

Loud helicopters

We are regular visitors to this site, we love it. We also love the aircraft, though maybe not so much low, loud helicopters doing manoeuvres until 11pm! I'm at a loss as to why we have to put our recycling in plastic bags, tied up, when they will be in a huge plastic bag in the bin? Isn't this counterintuitive! Brilliant site that does what we need it to do, no bells and whistles, just simple

Lovely Site for Maiden Voyage

We chose Thetford Forest for our maiden voyage in our new van as it was only an hour from home. Having spent 3 days there, we found it to be generally relaxing and peaceful set in a lovely location in amongst the pine forest. The only disturbance were some extremely low flying American Tilt Rotor aircraft, which just about skimmed the trees and made the caravan shudder. This happened three times over four days, once at night, but only for between 30-60 minutes. It was no big deal as it didn't last long and was interesting to observe, but just incredibly loud, so be warned. The site is nicely laid out in a semi-circle with grass and hard-standing pitches, with plenty of room and a couple of smaller circular grass areas for pitching within the trees. There are little wooden gates allowing access into the forest where there are some lovely walks to enjoy dappled shade and birdsong, whilst spotting the occasional deer in amongst the trees. There are bird boxes and feeders dotted around also which is a nice touch. This is a perfect site for dogs, with such easy access for walks. I’ve given a 3 star for families as there are no play areas for children or shower block/toilet facilities. The water and waste disposal facilities are clean and well kept. Close by is the site of the Desert Rats, which again is walkable across the road from the site. All in all, a lovely spot to pitch and enjoy woodland surroundings.

Perfect site for relaxation!

This site is our favourite and we are regular visitors. It is just perfect for dog walking and generally relaxing. The site itself is well maintained and the wardens are visible around the site. The lady warden is far more helpful and friendly. The male warden is essentially OK but expect excessive sarcasm in every conversation and constant moaning about the Caravan Club management. Just ignore it and he is OK. They have 4 dogs who previously have been very noisy but this seems to be under a more control now. Overall this is a great site and we always have a great time.

Great site and wardens

Great site and wardens, always a favorite of ours. Abbey loves running in the woods... Great area to relax, explore and be close to the Desert Rats training ground, which my Granddad was in from 1939........

Great for a short break

We stayed here one night at the end of our tour of Norfolk, we had had a busy but enjoyable week and when we saw the weather forecast decided to stay an extra night so booked here. Lovely friendly welcome and we had a fab grass pitch surrounded by trees. We stayed on site and did a short circular walk then lazed around. The ground is quite sandy so if you are concerned about getting your outfit grubby I would suggest a hardstanding pitch (we were not worried). It is a bit in the middle of nowhere and off of a main road so would need to drive to get places. There was the consistent banging from the nearby farm (see previous reviews) which for us was no concern, however I think if you stayed here longer and "tuned" in to it then it might become irritating.

Great site, peaceful, wonderful location for walking and enjoying nature!

Stayed here for 2 nights last weekend. Nice friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere in terms of pitch selection. Good size pitches. Wonderful location with great access to the surrounding forest. Great for people who like walking, cycling, have kids and/or dogs! Would love to see shower and toilet facilities here, otherwise the site is great! We will be back for sure!

Relaxing long weekend

Stayed 2 nights over weekend 09/10. Quiet site in the forest, with direct walks from site for the dog. As others have said, the site is not signposted of the road, but you can't miss it due to the big tank! (unless you are me!!). There is a dog agility course at Lynford Arboretum which our labrador loved! We also visited High Lodge which our 3 year old daughter enjoyed doing the Gruffalo trail and playing the musical instruments in the forest! The site was clean and wardens friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit the site again in the future.
