Rules and Regulations

This is a caravan site with spectacular views and good facilities, although we were a little bemused by the rules and regulations which were so rigorously imposed. We had booked a non-awning pitch many months ago. We hoped to pitch next to relatives who were already at the site. We were pleased to see a pitch was available right behind them. However, we were not allowed to pitch there as that spot was an awning pitch, we had to abide by our original non-awning booking from 10 months ago! A little bewildering as the pitch in question remained empty for the duration of our weekend stay. About 20 minutes before our arrival our relatives asked the wardens if they could reserve said pitch for us, “No, that wouldn’t be fair to other customers,” Quite right actually, but in that case, the wardens shouldn’t really be allowing any new arrivals on site until 12.00pm, as stated in the CMH site handbook. That’s not fair to the rule-abiding citizens who arrive after 12. Another peculiarity is gaining access to the site on arrival. As we had booked a non-awning pitch, (did we mention that?) we had a choice of only three pitches, all of which were visible to the wardens from the site office. “We’ll have one of those three then, please, “we said, before returning to the car expecting the barrier to raise. But it didn’t as we were told we hadn’t walked onto the site to choose our pitch and inform the wardens of the number. Another bemusing incident as it was clear where we would have to pitch……right outside the site office on pitch a, b or c. We pitched the van and then moved it slightly as everyone else had done, staying well within the gravel but to make a bit more room for the car. At that point a lady came running out of the office in quite a state shouting as she ran, ‘Excuse me, no!’ My wife thought I had fallen over the bank. It was to advise me that the van needed to be exactly in line with the marker. I pointed out all four vans to the right of me had also moved slightly off marker to make room for cars. “Well, I’m going to have to fetch **** the male warden to talk to you.” When you have just started your holiday, you don’t really rock up for a talking to by the male warden! He came and could do nothing but agree, all the other vans had done the same and we were still well within the 6m rule so it would be fine. All a bit OTT we thought. This is a lovely site, there’s no denying the spectacular position, but we don’t think the world will spin off its axis if the rules were a little more evenly applied, or possibly even relaxed a little!

If I understand correctly you’re not happy because you booked one type of pitch but wanted another, your relatives weren't permitted to reserve a pitch for you, the warden wanted to ensure she allocated the right pitch number to you by you actively selecting it ahead of anyone else physically bagging it, the wardens used their discretion in allowing people on site a bit early to clear the approach, and you weren't permitted to park contrary to instructions.

It all depends how you view these things I guess.😀
