DOG FRIENDLY OR NOT ?

Been to this site numerous times and would consider it our favourite, until this visit

Whilst filling my motorhome with water on arrival I put our dog on a lead to stretch his legs, Only to be shouted at “hey “ looking round to see a warden wagging his finger at me and saying “come hear”

You can’t walk your dog on this site and it should be on a 2 mtr lead

if you want to walk it take it off site “ I was greeted with

As I say we have been to this site on numerous occasion and the wardens have alway been superb but the new wardens or should I say this one in particular has spoilt it for us ,

Our pitch was at the top of the site and my wife was nervous to take our dog out in case she bumped into this confrontational member of staff , I consider my self a responsible and considerate dog owner , but when our dog comes out of our Van on a lead he IS going to sniff and wee between the van and the exit . The caravan club is either dog friendly or it’s not , I do not expect to be made to feel uncomfortable whilst on a relaxing weekend away

So this didn’t happen to just us , we never had a problem with this site until Christmas week and had a similar greeting about our dog, And I was exiting the site and my dog just stopped to sniff a post, and I got Oi you move along don’t stop you have to go straight to the exit, and I was on a mobility scooter and was looking around dint think he was talking to me but he was and as soon as possible cut our stay short and packed up and moved off site

The warden is probably one that was at Chatsworth site a few years ago when my brothers dog attracted a similar response. He was taking the dog off site one morning, the dog stopped for a wee and the warden remonstrated with him.  By the way, the warden had a cat which hopped over the fence each morning and into the site flower beds. When asked where the cat did it’s business the warden became very aggressive and wasn’t able to answer the question.

I have also decided not to book because of this as we have a small male dog and you cannot tell a dog not to wee until it gets off site. think we may have come across the same warden elsewhere.

Have you tried keeping your dog on a really short lead, walking quickly and, if he shows signs of sniffing around or lifting a leg, saying "no" in a firm voice? It works wonders.

Oh No not again.

We too are dog owners - one very elderly and one young. I had a run in with a temporary warden a few years ago who was there from their normal site (I won't name them but rest assured I will not stay on a site where they are wardens). This individual was clearly not an animal lover and took it upon themselves to place a hand written sign outside reception threatening that anyone found to be allowing their dog to foul would be removed from the site and hinting at even worse sanctions. In the end, I wrote to the site's committee at head office who instructed the warden to remove the sign.

We have been members for around 25 years and have always had dogs. We consider ourselves to be responsible owners and if one of our dogs does have an accident we always clean up after it, indeed when one our dogs does something on the rough ground adjacent to the site which is the designated dog walk, we always pick up there as well.

I store my caravan at Whitewater and have done so for a long time. We have supported the site a great deal over the years and that has been partly because it is a good site for dogs with many nice walks from it. However, if you are pitched at the far end of the site from the entrance it is difficult to ensure the dog won't have a wee on the way out. It is amusing to think that wild animals such as foxes and the like do from time to time stray onto the site and they clearly haven't read the clubs policy on fouling.

To be honest, if this warden does adopt the attitude described, I would have no hesitation in reporting them to head office. The clubs policy quite rightly states that members shouldn't allow pets to foul but if there is an accident the member should ensure they clean it up - that sounds entirely logical to me.

I have also been a member of the Camping & Caravanning Club for 45 years and in all that time I have never found wardens that have had such anti-dog attitudes. Perhaps the club could take a lesson from the "friendly club" after all a warden can make or break the relationship between members and the club.

If this happens to me, rest assured I will not let it lie!

Is it possible to get the Official understanding on this dog issue ?

As has been stated Our Club is either dog friendly or not ?

I have a Working Dog who is trained to go to the toilet at home and not on a walk . the moment He goes through the door He goes .

So do the club expect Me to explain to Him We are on holiday  and there are different rules ?

Hope We arent heading back to the days were Wardens seemed to think We were pitched in Their Garden .

In all fairness the vast majority due a fantastic job , but The Club must ensure a few dont spoil it for the rest .

Pit Bull is My nic name  not the breed of My dog .!!
