2nd visit to Papillon

Our 2nd visit to this site, overall it's still a very nice place, there have been changes since our last visit, some of which we were not altogether happy with. But they were our dislikes! The restaurant has had an upgrade, it is now very 'light and bright, the menu has also altered, it is now primarily pasta and pizza based with just a couple of local meals put on, in what looks like an afterthought. This is probably because the site has been taken over by an Italian company. However a quick drive out of the site will give anyone the chance to eat Dutch or German depending on which way you turn at the main road. I also found that the three times I tried to use the disabled facilities they were locked so I gave up and used the family showers, just for a bit more space. We met some lovely fellow campers while here namely Jaap and Alie from Holland, Bob and Lin from the midlands and Frauke, Marcel and Milan from Bremen. I doubt if they will ever see this review but thanks all for making our holiday special! There are new small buildings going up on the site which are a shower/toilet and panbash facility on the certain pitches, on inquiring I was told, these pitches are being classed as comfort+, I didn't find out any prices as we were not interested this trip but we both decided to look into it for our next visit. So I hope you can gather we are planning a return to the Papillon, that's how much we enjoy it! Well worth a visit, there are still two fishing lakes but now to use the one of them you have to have a pitch on the lakeside. Each pitch area still has a small kids play area as well as the main play areas close to reception and restaurant. Both of the swimming areas (lake and pool), were being well used while we were there, probably because of the good weather. Safe travels and we hope you all enjoy yourselves.

Highly recommended site in the east of The Netherlands

We have just returned from a 13 night stay at De Papillon arriving just after the site opened for the season. I can fully endorse all that has already been mentioned by previous reviewers. Yes,the site is large but is arranged into smaller areas so you do not feel crowded. We had a large comfort pitch. The toilet block was always immaculate. The owners Alex and Kirsten are keen to welcome more British visitors. Alex went out of his way to show us what the site had to offer and he was most keen that we should ,above all, have a great holiday. Tha area around the site offers a number of attractive town and villages reached by the extensive number of cycle paths. Germany is "just down the road" where you will even find C+A and Woolworths-two long forgotten names in the UK! We highly recommend this site for families and couples alike. Acsi card accepted.

An excellent site in the East of The Netherlands

We thoroughly enjoyed Camping de Papillon with its laid back feeling and would heartily recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a relaxing time in the east of The Netherlands. There is an excellent network of well signposted cycle paths throughout the area, which we at times made good use of. Though the site was quite large it never felt particularly crowded, with ample space to move and relax. The pool was busy, but never overcrowded. There is also a swimming lake with a tethered inflatable iceberg to throw yourself from into the cooler water; very popular with younger teenagers. Throughout the site there were also under-10s size play frames and slides. We found the restaurant served excellent ice-cream at a reasonable price, as well as ice-cold beer and a decent range of food, and though the menu was in Dutch and German, we did manage to work out what everything was with a little help from the staff, who all spoke much better English than I did Dutch. The shop was fairly comprehensive for one on a camping site and covered all the usual, such as wine, beer, fresh bread, snacks, cheese, meat and a range of tinned supplies as well as fishing gear, camping spares and children’s holiday toys, all at a reasonable price. There was also a laundry. Camping de Papillon is a large site on the eastern edge of The Netherlands, less than half a km from the German border. It has around 400 pitches split into various fields. There was a mix of touring fields, including one that had a fishing lake in the middle so you could actually indulge in some angling direct from your pitch, as well as what appeared to be seasonal fields and some long term static vans with beautiful, well-kept gardens. Some fields have pitches separated by trees and hedges and some were no-drive fields, where cars are parked at the end of the field after pitching the tent or caravan. We had a comfort pitch approximately 13 metres by 12 metres and this was typical of the comfort pitches on the site. The pitch was level and had 10 Amp mains connection with the usual blue plug as well as direct connections for each pitch of fresh water and waste water. We were issued with a metal key for the tap on checking in at reception, 5 Euro deposit. We were also issued a card for the car to exit and enter, another 10 Euro deposit, as well as a card to be used to switch on the showers and the hot water at the washing up sinks in one of the two utility blocks. This was loaded with 350 credits for our seven night stay, the idea being that you would use less water in the showers as the site owners are very keen on their green credentials, having just been given an award. We would certainly visit again.

Camping De Papillon Holland.

This site is well kept and well looked after, the facilities are immaculate! The staff are all very helpful, the owner Alex does everything possible to make your stay a good one. This site is family orientated yet there are quiet areas on site but you will get some play noise in high season, we were there for the last week in June and until the 12 July, we had very little noise. There is a nice restaurant on site, however within 5 minutes drive, you can eat in Holland or Germany so there is plenty of choice. Jan and I have already discussed a return visit. THIS SITE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Try it even if its only for a night stopover, well worth it! Have a good trip.
