Needs to be re looked at by the Caravan Club

We arrived at 11.30am in the last week of June found the reception closed and had to wait for some time for somebody to appear from within the campsite. The lady informed us proudly that an English couple had turned up the previous day and promptly left earlier that day having booked onto a different site as they were not happy. After taking out tourist tax money she told us to look round the campsite to see if we wanted to stay (which we did). We found the pitches not to the usual size of those we have stayed at before in France, but eventually found one we could fit on (our caravan being only 7.5 m long). We had to use levelling blocks (which was not an issue) and easily reached an electric point only to find it was not working. Went back to reception to report this, but once again reception was closed and had to search the site to find anybody, both connections on the electric point had tripped, but she only reset one of them, when I queried the other connection that had obviously tripped, she replied "You are ok", lo and behold later that week another van arrived and he had to trace somebody to reset the trip. The pitches were in desperate need of cutting some of the grass and weeds were ankle deep and the hedges overgrown with brambles. There were two shower blocks on site, but only one was open, the locked up with water turned off and looking at the state of it was unlikely to open in the near future. The showers were always hot and clean, but turned off at night and not on again until 8am. Although the temperature was in the high 20's/low 30's while we were there the swimming pool was not open the gate being locked and the pool needing a clean. The one saving grace was the beach and sea, absolutely beautiful with a clean beach and very clear water. The directions to the site are wrong, there are no traffic lights to pass through for instance, we spoke with one couple who had tried to follow these directions and ended up in the town centre. What appeared to have been a shop and a cafe on site was all closed and being used for storage of old items. Of all the English people we spoke with during the two weeks we were there not one had any praise for the site. We never saw the reception open other than when people were booking in and on may occasions we saw people just waiting at the entrance for somebody to appear.. The site is in a state of disrepair and in drastic need of time and money spent on it, which is a shame as it could be a fantastic site. I think this site has been miss represented and the Caravan Club need to rethink about recommending it. We have stayed on several Caravan Club recommended sites in France in the past and have never been disappointed before. We will not be returning.
