Useful for ferry crossing from Caen

We were not overly impressed by this site, from the disinterested reception to being given a map and told everything was closed. We were also told not to uncouple but with no explanation as to why. I would not do this as I would not like to put that strain on my cars suspension. And as we were there for 2 nights it would seem a strange instruction. However, as a convenient place to pitch up for the ferry it cannot be faulted.

Pretty awful

Arrived here for a two night stop before catching the ferry home from La Harve. Receptionist very pleasant on arrival & pitch ok. Chose not to use shower facilities as these were half finished - no taps on sinks & there was no toilet paper in the loos. The washing up area was modern however the water was never hot. Loud music was playing until after 11pm & the canal walk was not a pleasant one. We would not choose to visit this site again.

Dear Sir/Madam.

I am sorry you didn’t have a positive experience at our camping. Please see my reply regarding your comments.

We have now fully renovated our two block toilets. All blocks shower were finished but there was a final one which arrived very late in season. This could have been the one you used.

Hot water problem is now fixed.

We make sure all noise is finished by 2300hrs so not disturb all clients on camping.

Not pleasant

This site is fit only for a overnight stop for an early ferry crossing. It has been extended recently, and was overcrowded, noisy and dirty. Receptionist hadn't a clue. Pitches not clearly marked so confusion over boundaries. Very tight manouvering if you have a large unit. Electrics kept cutting out. Toilets horrible. Won't be back.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your comments, I am sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay. Hope my below reply can answer your comments.

Our toilet blocks are new and cleaned three times a day.

Places are between 80m² and 100m². Numbers are shown between each place but we did have to redo some of them as they did come loose.

We supply 10amp per pitch but if more is used then it does cut.

First or Last stop in France

Traveling from Portsmouth to Caen and not wanting to immediately hit the open roads of France, we chose Riva Belle or Les Pommiers (as named on your club satnav), as it's right on the ports doorstep and less than 20 minutes from the terminal with no complicated route to follow. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who took our names and pointed us in the direction of the pitches telling us to just pitch up on one we liked that was vacant. The pitches are quite large with a mixture of hard standing and grass pitches. The pitches seem to have a toilet block reasonably close although the shower block was some way from us. In fairness, there does appear to be some serious upgrade work taking place that will perhaps improve the situation. The new facilities are excellent and the toilet blocks, spotless (no toilet paper). There is a bar on site and the reception has a small shop. Although close to the road, traffic noise wasn't a problem. Well worth considering if arriving at night from the ferry or catching an early ferry home.

Great stop over for ferry

Arrived late Friday night due to technical problems. Staff all very welcoming and helpful on our arrival. Site better than we thought being near the port. New toilet block. Supermarket and petrol station close to site also. Nice walk at back of site along the canal. Would come again for stop over from ferry.

Mixed feelings!

Yes, extremely convenient for the ferry! Yes, brilliant that you can arrive late at night! Yes, new toilet block! Yes, swimming pool being installed (date of our visit mid April and again mid May). But, pitches were in a very poor condition, uncut grass, potholes and even an iron bar imbedded in the pitch adjacent to ours! For us a night halt site only!

Very good site, both for the ferry and for longer stays

Firs time we've used this site. It's very close to the ferry and is ideal when coming off the late ferry. The manager was there to meet all the 'vans and you can pitch anywhere of your choice. There were places where you could leave car and caravan hitched. The recently refurbished loo block is excellent and the other one will soon be finished. The new pool looks lovely too. We will return and would be more than happy to stay longer.

Excellent for Caen ferry

Stayed here on our inward and outward journey through France but as we wanted to see the Landing Beaches and Pegasus Bridge we stayed an extra night. We arrived late as we booked through Caravan club and there were no directions with paperwork also site still shows old name on the main road at the roundabout but reception was waiting for us, as they do if the ferry is late. There is a lot of work being carried out on site; new pool etc. but this was no problem at all. There is a new toilet block which is excellent. There are no toilet seats but toilets of the kind that they aren't needed. You must take your own paper but soap is provided. Privacy cubicles with showers combined and they were absolutely spotless when we were there. Pitches good size but grass needed cutting. Would stay again definitely.

Spoilt by noise

Perfect location for the Ouistreham ferry, less than 5 minutes drive. Friendly and helpful man on reception and as we were staying only one night said we could pick any pitch

Pitches were lacking grass but that’s not really fair to complain about as its end of season and also a very dry spell of weather. The water taps where we were didn't inspire confidence and the drainage was a little clogged up on some of the water points.

The sanitary blocks are due for well needed refurbishment which should enhance the site a lot.

Our problem was noise – there are a number of pitches with tents and caravans with permanent fixtures / awnings. Sadly there were a group of at least 6 in one of these caravans who were shouting and making a lot of noise up to midnight. On another pitch there were a couple of vans pitched alongside each other with doors opening and shutting well passed 1.00am, not ideal when we have an early ferry crossing. In hindsight we should have pitched well over to the far corner which may have been quieter. Hopefully with the improvements promised it may deter these types of occupiers.

Would we use it again ? Unlikely until we get some feedback on the improvements promised which is a shame as its potentially a very good site with easy access to Ouistreham with its restaurants, the Normandy beaches and of course the port

Note: Whilst we were travelling as a couple we wouldn't have been happy to have used it with our children when they were younger due to the condition of the toilet blocks hence the low rating for that aspect. Apparently a new swimming pool is planned for 2017
