Nice site, lovely location, but...

We arrived on a busy weekend. Very busy on site with families. We had been allocated pitches next to each other as requested, but the "lovely stream" was very dark green and not flowing much and also our pitch was next to a drain that was v smelly before it appeared to go in the stream. To be fair when we asked to move they found us two other pitches that were due to be vacated after a day.  The access to waste water disposal and chemical waste toilet was very limited. Being only one of each at the wash and shower block. Also of note was that the chemical toilet drain was next to the semi open men's urinal on the outside of the toilet block...not a great place for it to be.  It wasn't very practical for motor home use as no dedicated motor home point.  The little bar and restaurant was good value and the music night seemed to go down well! Vaux sur mer is lovely, with a market every day until 1pm a cafe bar newsagent banks, post office and hairdressers...very nice indeed and only a short walk away. The beach is further away, so we drove to a lovely beach area with lifeguards.  The pool is lovely and even had a lifeguard and some organised water based activities. All in all a very nice stay despite some aspects of the facilities not quite how I'd expect. I would go there again.

Great stay

Our Sat. Nav. struggled to locate the site so we ended up asking for directions. We then had a lovely few days stop over at this site. Arrived mid-July and we were able to pick our own pitch. Pitches were large and level with some tree shading. Free Wi-Fi which was great for our teenagers although it was variable. Two Miele domestic washing machines were available at 4 euros per wash-slow wash but actually cleaned our clothes unlike others we have used. There was also a small chest freezer. Bike hire and canoe hire were available plus free table tennis. Toilet blocks were modern-no loo roll in each cubicle just a few main dispensers outside. Showers were the push timer variety. We didn’t use the pool but it looked well maintained and popular. Worth noting there is no shop on site-we arrived late afternoon on the Sunday when the shops are closed-luckily we had food with us as the small restaurant was closed that night also. We visited a Supermarket (Intermarche)+ 6km away. Bread can be ordered the night before onsite. It is around a 15-20 minute flat walk into Coulon to a pretty canal side town, we hired a boat and had a meal in one of the waterside bars although the food was just ok.

Location, location, location?

This site is located in a built up area although there is a lovely park area adjacent to it, but no direct access. The beach seemed like more than 800m, it is a bit of a drab walk to get there but worth it. Lovely base to cycle from with great cycle tracks all the way past Royan, or La Palmyre the other way. The facilities are Ok, but you can face a long walk. Not sure it would suit families with young kids, but the pool was adequate. The bar area had no atmosphere other than a rug of smoke. We had an invasion of frogs from the local stream one night which made the walk to and from the shower block interesting.

Adequate

You're allocated a  pitch on arrival, no choice is given. I politely complained after seeing designated pitch & permitted to change. Lots of British campers though, I was surprised. Basic toilet/showers a distance to walk to. A good basic pool. I think this site is useful for a short stay of 2 or 3 nights. The nearbye village, an extension of built up Royan, is great as is the beautifull park. Some expensive villa's beside the sea a long trek away. Glad I saw the area but won't return.

Holiday 2015

Cannot understand why this site was so popular, definitely the worst site of our holidays with poorly maintained and small pitches but the worse thing was no toilet paper in the loos.

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for the review, we are disappointed that your experience of this site was a negative one.  We have contacted the site and asked them to address the issues that you have raised.

Response from Le Val Vert :

 Hello

We are really sorry that your stay at the Val Vert was not up to the level that you were expecting.  The high standard of maintenance of our site is one of the qualities that our clients often comment on.

As we are a three star site it is not obligatory for us to provide toilet paper.

 Kindest regards

 Le Val Vert
