Champagne Tea at Blenheim Palace

This story happened on: 25/03/2012

We have just returned from our second weekend away this year. Normally we would have been away quite a few times by now but arthritic knees delayed not only the start to our season but also the take up of a rather grand Ruby Wedding present, champagne afternoon tea at Blenheim Palace.

What a perfect venue for the caravanner because Bladon Chains Caravan Club Site is literally situated on the Blenheim Estate, just outside the wall of the Palace Garden. A short walk or cycle ride takes you to the main entrance to the palace, or you could be idle, as we were, and take the car, there is ample parking.

We were lucky with the weather, March 24th seemed to be heralding the start of summer. Beautiful clear skies and warm sunshine encouraged us and thousands of others to enjoy the grounds of the palace. We toured the palace, enjoyed the audio visual display and by 3.30p.m. had worked up quite an appetite.

Tea was served in the Indian room, delicate sandwiches, scones, teabread and pastries washed down with tea and of course the champagne and delicious it was too. Pleasantly full we returned to the site and sat outside the van enjoying the last few rays of sunshine at the end of a very enjoyable day.

Oh yes and I must not forget to mention that on the way out of the palace we noticed signs encouraging us to exchange our day ticket for a years pass. We are now looking forward to our next visit to Bladon Chains and another visit to Blenhiem Palace, probably without the champagne tea though.

If you belong to the Historic Houses Association you can get free admission to Blenheim Palace - or if you don't, and have to pay, you get a discount by showing your Bladon Chains CC site receipt.
