Postcard from Cavalaire sur Mer

This story happened on: 10/06/2012

Cavalaire sur Mer is a lively seaside resort on the Côte d’Azur. Its promenade runs behind several sandy beaches from the port eastwards, where it ends in a pathway to a wooded beach front. In season, all the beaches are patrolled by lifeguards provided by the Fire Brigade. There are beach cafes and a play area complete with a bouncy giraffe and trampoline. There is a sailing school and, in the port, two diving companies. You can also hire speedboats if your budget is big enough. You can always try your luck at the Casino!

Although the town is a modern development, and has no old quarter, it nevertheless has charm. There are a few small hotels, but most of the holiday accommodation is provided by low-rise apartments. The little high street is a bustle of boutiques; bistros and cafés, pâtisseries and épiceries, and a Carousel. There are also several supermarkets in and around the town centre. The municipal office of culture organizes concerts and exhibitions throughout the year: these take place on the promenade and in the ‘salles de fêtes’

Camping de la Baie is only a few minutes’ walk from the high street, the promenade and the port. It’s one of three campsites at Cavalaire and, being an ACSI 16 euro site, it’s full of happy Netherlanders cheering their team on in Euro 2012 (they went a bit quiet after losing last night). The campsite has a bar/ restaurant, a shop, and a swimming pool. The facilities have been refurbished over the winter; however, there are now an additional 20 mobile homes thus reducing the number of camping pitches.

The weather here is warm but windy (force 5 gusting to force 7) so it’s not a day for beach umbrellas! Hope you like the photos.
