Postcard from Collioure

This story happened on: 04/04/2012

On Sunday, we travelled 200 miles northwards from the Costa Daurada to France. We stopped overnight near Collioure at ‘Les Criques de Portails’. It’s an ACSI  17Euro site, on the cliffs to the north of the town which can be reached by a cliff-top walk.

The site had only opened the previous day and we didn’t expect it to be busy: perhaps a few French families. However, an organized touring party of about 50 Flemish caravanners and motohomers had arrived on day one! The only French we heard was when speaking to the ‘man on the buggy’ who helped us to our pick our pitch!

It’s a very good, well-managed site, which we’ve visited before. The wifi is free. The cliff walks require a fair degree of agility and are unsuitable for pushchairs. To the north of the site is Argelés and sandy beaches. Caravanners, having their cars, have the edge here over motorhomers, as the road past the site is really only suitable for serious cyclists.

Hope you like the photos!

Hi chasNcath, been reading your stories and would like some advice. We plan to head down to the south of France again this year and would be gratefull if you could recommend any sites south of Collioure. We hope to go on to Barcelona and stay there for a few days. Any help as regards a route and sites on the way would be good. We've been to a couple of places you mention in your stories ie Le Lavendou area and along that part of the coast, but would like to be a little more adventurous this year. By the way we're caravaners so we would like easy routes if poss.

Happy travels

Billyboy.
