Head scratching and excitement!

This story happened on: 02/10/2012

Hello to Caravan Club members!  You probably see a steady stream of people like me.  I have my first van parked around the back of my home, a shiny new Caravan Club membership, a load of shiny new plastic accessories from the Caravan Centre, and the whole world of sites before me!

My wife and I have always had adventures, and we're bringing up our two little girls to love outdoor adventure too.  You'll usually find us bouncing down a river in a canoe, dangling from a rope, floating over mountains in a paraglider, or slogging up steep hills in the rain.

We're hoping that caravanning will lighten those dark, soul-searching moments often found in the middle of our adventure trips.  We're a stoic bunch, but even we can begin to feel a little despondent after the third day of sitting under canvas slowly losing the hard-fought battle to keep clothes, towels and bedding dry.  A caravan will provide a homely, comfortable place in which to escape the deluge.

Maybe we're growing up; who knows?  I know I'll never stop packing small tents into canoes and rucksacks now and then.  But I'm also looking forward with huge anticipation to glowing lights, gas fires, soft seats and a nice hot brew while the rain hammers down outside.

I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you via the new 'Come Together' facility on the Caravan Club website, and perhaps I'll meet you on some of the sites in the near future.  I certainly hope so.

Welcome Dan.  We are new to caravanning ourselves and have discovered a wealth of knowledge on these boards.  That's worth £40 of anyone's money.

Hi Dan,

We have just started up ourselves and are loving every minute of it! We bought our first caravan 3 months ago and have been away in it 5 times so far, we plan to go away agian in October and we really enjoy the freedom, comfort and luxury that a caravan affords. I completely get your camping/weather issues and with the uk climate seeming to get worse every year, I believe that caravaning is the future for anyone that likes the freedom and openness that camping affords.

Let us all know how your first adventure goes!

Welcome to the world of caravanning.  We started last October and have been about 6 times over the past 12 months.  Like you were were fed up with the good old British weather and for us cancelling breaks away under canvas.  We're desperate to go again but work keeps getting in the way.

I'm sure you will all enjoy your van and the experiences it will bring.

Hi Dan, welcome to the world of caravanning, we were new to it all last year, and this year we have been as far as Cornwall from the North East, we are loving the freedom that the "van" has brought us, and take great pride in her (even though she is a 2002 Bailey Ranger 2 berth) we recently returned from a trip to Beechwood Grange in York, but have now put her away for the winter months :(

Whitewater in Stockton on Tees is a great site, especially if you like outdoor activities, as it is on the Tees Barrage white water canoing centre, and not far from the coast either, Saltburn being a haven for surfers.

Happy caravanning to you and your family Happy
