Gardening Weekend

This story happened on: 23/03/2012

Friday came and off we went for the gardening weekend at Round Plantation.  With us both being unfortunates that haven’t retired yet we couldn’t get away until late and spent an entertaining two hours on the A14.  On arrival I couldn’t believe the work already completed by the early arrivals, the site was already looking good.  Wait, what’s this, where have all the potholes gone? Fantastic a newly tarmaced entrance road.  Saturday saw us up and raking and clearing leaves followed by weeding and planting in the large flower bed.

For those who don’t know Round Plantation is one of three volunteer run sites within the network.  Being on Forestry Commission property there is always a lot of leaves to be cleared from the pitches and site in general.  This being so the Mid Anglia and Suffolk Centre have organised a rally there for several years and volunteers go along and prepare the site for opening.  Along with the leaf raking, flower beds are cleared and replanted, pots prepared and this year several new gravel pitches and roadways were laid.  By the end of the weekend the site is clean and tidy ready for opening on Friday 23 March.

All of this is done every year and thanks must go to both the volunteers who help clear the site and to the volunteer wardens who run it though the season.

Thanks Dave.

I will be there checking out your efforts over Easter.

Nice to see somebody else reads these stories.  Hope you have a good time there at Easter.  Bad news is that three of the good pubs/restaurants in the area have shut.

Thank you Dave for your volunteering efforts... When I visited Henley Four Oaks there were some volunteers helping with the site maintenance, and they were a great asset.
