Our first visit to a Caravan Club Site.

This story happened on: 16/03/2012

After spending a few days up north, well as far as Derby is north of Swindon, we returned south and moved on to the Houghton Mill Club Site.  What a stunning introduction to the Caravan Club, well maintained site, clean and tidy.  This site is set in a lovely part of the country with lots to see and do with plenty of walking to enjoy. While on a walk one day we were approaching a main road from a lane when we saw two cyclists, some 30 metres ahead, who both turned to look our way, unfortunately, as they were riding side by side, the gentleman wandered to the left and the lady wandered to the right which resulted in a collision.  Both cyclists landed on top of each other.  We rushed forwards to them to offer assistance as required.  The gentleman was a little shocked, however the lady had a broken thumb – it was sticking out at a very peculiar angle. I reassured the lady and suggested that it would be more comfortable for her to raise her arm and support it inside her fleece with the zipper raised.  My wife had by this time called an ambulance, which arrived with 15 minutes.  We locked up their bikes to a nearby post and wished them all the best.

The site is has a Mill at its entrance, which is popular with day trippers.  On the Monday there was a dog that was enjoying himself, by launching himself into the pond scrambling out and then doing it over and over again.  Taking to the owners, apparently the dog just loves water and will carry on doing this all day if left to his own devices. It is a frequent place for them to visit.
