Snow at Sandringham!

I like to go caravanning every month of the year, but as my caravan is my pride and joy, I am not encouraged by the pictures of caravans in the snow in the winter touring brochures sent out each year by the Caravan Club. I study the different weather forecasting websites, to try to ensure I don't set out into tricky conditions which could damage my car and caravan, and make me an additional obstacle on the roads.

Anyway, in February 2009 I set off for a trip to Sandringham CC site. It is only an hour's run from my home, it was chilly, but dry, the roads were fine, no sign of snow. I checked in, chose my hardstanding, set the caravan up, and had lunch. I decided to visit Castle Rising in the afternoon. I drove there, parked the car, and just as I started walking into the castle gateway, the first tell tale flakes of snow started to fall. By the time I had been there half an hour, the snow flakes were large, and were laying. I cut short my visit, drove carefully back to the site, by which time we had the makings of a winter wonderland! I retreated indoors, watched television and read a book. The snow stopped by the evening, and I must admit everywhere looked very pretty. In the morning, I took photos which I used in my Christmas cards the next year. Fortunately it did not keep on snowing the whole time, and I was able to enjoy walks in the area in the snow, well wrapped up. By the time I was ready to return home, there was still a good layer of snow on the fields and grass, but the roads had cleared sufficiently to make it a reasonable journey home. I still do my best to avoid the snow on my winter caravan trips, but can at least say I have 'braved' the elements once.
