March Trip to Rutland Day 4

This story happened on: 25/03/2012

Sunday 25th March 2012 - Time to travel home today so cheerio to the site receptionists and off to the nearby Clipsham Yew Avenue.. over 150 topiarised yews, many with specific themes. Rather misty and slightly spooky at first but, when mist had cleared, a tremendous sight and hardly anybody there.

Next stop was Thistleton Herb Nursery, where we were met with superb selection of herbs, alpines, bulbs and other plants, all in pristine condition. We were lucky to meet the knowledgable lady owner, of a certain age, who added up items purchased with pencil & paper, only resorting to calculator for confirmation. A delightful family run place, in a great location and offering good value plants. It's now on our re-visit list!

After a bar meal at the Cross Swords in Skillington (full of very friendly locals) we drove a little further to Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth to visit Isaac Newton's birthplace. It's an NT property and now boasts a video room, science room and cafe in addition to the house itself and Newton's original apple tree! All great for families and budding scientists in particular.

Drive home back a different way across the Vale of Belvoir feeling very relaxed and lucky with the 4 days in sunny Rutland... next week it's a bit all downhill to Habitation check and MOT time, so await to see what they can find this year!
