Live and Learn

This story happened on: 20/06/2012

Brand new to caravanning, first trip out was to the clubs Coed – y- Llwyn site in North Wales early May and apart from the weather enjoyed the experience. Onwards and upwards we thought or to be geographically accurate Onwards and down as the next trip was to be Cornwall. What a great experience the Treamble Valley site proved to be, everything up to the standard we now expect after Coed – y- Llwyn, A special word for the site Wardens and their team of eager beavers – FANTASTIC. But what a disappointment our second week proved to be. Although St Ives is not a million miles away from Treamble Angela and I had decided that we needed to put more stress into our lives by splitting up the trip to get more practice at setting up and moving on. So a little research distilled the choice down to the Godrevy club site or a private one close by. In the end we were influenced by some rave reviews about the private site and went with that. To our sad experience we now have to question what some reviewers on ‘UK Campsite’ described as spotlessly clean and immaculate facilities with hot water. Our experience was a just about acceptable shower temperatures compared with the CC’s piping hot ones. Luke warm washing up water where it was a race to complete the washing up before the water was cold. Showers, toilet and washing facilities that were nowhere as clean as Coed – y- Llwyn and Treamble Valley. Although our fellow site users were friendly enough they were just not as warm and welcoming as we had found on the CC sites. And to round off our disappointment we had the nearest pitch to a family camping in a tent far too small for all of them, which, seemed to instigate a domestic argument between midnight and 1am. this included one of them sounding their Land Rovers horn in frustration. To confirm what we had started to believe we took a look at Godrevy and were so sick that we had not chosen to stay there.
As I started by saying we live and learn by our experiences and from now on its CC sites all the way for us – no more seduction by reviewers who must never have experienced the best the CC can offer.

Sorry to rub salt in the wound a bit but Godrevey's location is the real attraction for us .. straight onto the dunes and then the beach (with cafe), great clifftop walks, Hellsmouth Cafe and St Ives just a bus ride from the site entrance to mention a  few attractions.

We try not to go to sites we have been to before and Godrevey is the one & only exception!  Get yourself booked in!Smile
