Ireland 2011

This story happened on: 13/03/2012

In June 2011 we took the motorhome to Ireland on the fast ferry from Cairnryan to Larne. First stop the lovely Aghalee CL. Then south east to Rush , Malahide & Howth then The Wicklow Mountains & Rathdrum Hidden Valley - a busy Bank Holiday weekend ! A visit to Avoca ( Ballykissangel ) then south via New Ross & Waterford to Tramore. Next, inland to Tipperary and Glen of Aherlow - idyllic ! South again to Cobh and Blarney then west via Clonakilty & Skibbereen to the wild south western extreme point - Mizen Head. Northwards up the west coast by Dunmanus Bay & the Tunnel road to Bantry, Kenmore, The ring of Kerry, Sleem, Killorgin & Gap of Dunloe, to Flemings White Bridge at Killarney. A visit to Muckross, Killarney National Park then on to Tralee, Bunratty Castle, Limerick, Ennis, The Cliffs of Moher, & Nagles Doolin Point . North again to the Aillwee Cave, overlooking Galway Bay and on to Athenry & Loch Corrib then picturesque Knock. Back to the coast to Louisburgh, Croagh Patrick , Killadoon Beach & round by The Mweelrea Mountains & Doon Lough and on to Westport. North East to Sligo & Carrowmore Megaliths then Ballyshannon and back into Northern Ireland by Loch Erne and Castlecoole, Enniskillen and our final stop in Antrim before the return fast ferry from Larne back to Cairnryan.

We had a wonderful 2 week trip, with such diverse scenery and lovely people everywhere we went.

Glad you enjoyed it.    Ireland and especially the Republic has  become an expensive trip due to the downturn and I am sure that you were appreciated wherever you went.  Thank you for visiting Northern Ireland as well as we are slowly recovering fro the lack of tourists due to the troubles.

We had been to Northern Ireland several times and to Dublin once before and thoroughly and thoroughly enjoyed every visit.

Didn't come across any CLs in Eire but no problem finding sites except over the June Bank Holiday weekend. Try to get a copy of the Ireland 2012 Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Guide.  It covers both North and South and has all grades of sites in it.  The ones in our own club handbook are all first- class.  ENJOY !!
