My First Caravan

Our First Caravan

We had had camping holidays in our frame tent for years but then, several of our friends graduated to caravnning. We followed, and bought a well used 12 ft Europa. It was old but had obviously been loved. Previous owners had reupholstered it and had fitted new (thicker) curtains and carpet, but it had evidence of damp ingress. I took off both awning channels, and replaced them with new mastic and stainless steel screws. Then, at a car bootSaleI found an oven which I bought and fitted.

We joined the Buckinghamshire Centre and the four of us had a whale of a time. Shortly after joining, our new friends in the Centre persuaded us to go on a continental holiday rally with them the following year. We were so naïve but the rally organisers taught us everything we needed to know.

This all happened 30 years ago but nevertheless our first trip abroad is often in our minds as being something special even though the caravan was basic by todays standards.

If anyone is thinking about going toEurope, do what we did and go on a Centre rally – the expertise of the organisers will make everything easy for you.

Happy Touring

Mike
