CC Practical Caravanning Course

This story happened on: 06/11/2012

Good evening all,

i thought i would take a few minutes to give a short update on my experience at the CC Towing Course.  As a complete novice, i thought it prudent to arm myself with at least some guidance on towing and thought the CC would a good place to seek out that guidance.  And how right i was.  I attended the "Practical Caravanning" course at Appletree near Banbury, as opposed to the "Maneouvering" course recommended for experienced towers.  The course managed to balance the classroom based learning on the legal and technical aspects of towing, with ample practical guidance and practice in a completely safe environment.  The course tutor was incredibly patient and extremely knowledgeable.  Things like caravan levelling, checking and tightening the caravan wheel bolts and a summary of a caravan braking system were all useful learning i hadn't expected.  The only part that was missing for me was some "on road" tuition, but i appreciate the time constraints and insurance burden would probably make that difficult to include.  In summary, i would happily recommend the course to any beginner or novice tower.

Hi there, dont mean to be nosey but do these courses cost alot to attend and was there a waiting list? We are new to caravaning and im very nervous that one day we will get in to a situation that would require complicated reversing of the caravan and it would be very embarrasing to not be able to do it!!!!

Hi Hedgehogs,

the course cost £135, plus the cost of a B&B and a pub meal for me as I had to travel around 100 miles.  No waiting list.  If you choose a course closer to home you can commute to keep the costs down.  If like me, you are a complete beginner it is worth doing.  Really helps build yiur confidence.  I confess that i also had a motor mover fitted to our new caravan "just in case".  Good luck

The cost of the course was money well spent and I totally agree with nick2611 and like him I still had a motor mover fitted as my storage slot is a bit tight.  I was lucky that my training was relatively local. There was a waiting list but not too long. I would say to HedgeHogs go ahead because the training got me out of a pickle in France when I ended up the wrong lane and nearly ended up going to Dunkirk instead of Calais.
