Exmouth Kite Festival

This story happened on: 12/03/2012

The title of this section asks 'how do I use the caravan', so perhaps I could add a few photos from an event we have taken the van to.

For the last 3 years or so (and will be again this year) we have attended Exmouth Kite Festival where we have camped on the event site (I am a member of Sky Symphony Kite Display Team). If you look at one of the photos you will see the van in the background. This event is held around the end of May or beginning of June. This year it will actually be the last weekend in May.

It always seems to be popular, there are always good crowds, and there is always something in the sky for people to see. Sometimes it may be a huge blue manta ray (this is about 40 METRES long) or there are some very large geckos. At other times there may be a kite team display, possibly even choreographed to music (such as ours), or even a swarm of large butterflies!

The photos accompanying these notes show:

1. us (in the blue shirts) on the ground mixing with another Kite Display Team (I am on the extreme right!) and lots of lines ascending into the sky, hopefully not tangling too much! You should be able to spot the van in the background!

2. Shows what you see looking the other way!

3. A photo of us in the middle of our 5 man routine.

4. Some of the large single line kites, the geckos, which are about 20m long!

5. The sune setting across the Exe river estuary!

I to used to be into the kite scene big time a one time member of AKF the large black and white whale was mainly sewn up by me along with a 20ft boule and all sorts of inflatables then got into kite bugging making traction kites and now to old it hurts to much when you get dragged out. Thanks for the pictures brings back good memories

This was one of the most enjoyable festivals I've attended. We bought a caravan last year as I'd been camping in a tent at them for a few years on my own because my wife refused to camp in a tent. We've now been to many events and used the caravan a few other times as well.

Here's a link to the photos I took at Exmouth this year: http://good-times.webshots.com/album/582878768olAbgs
