A few years ago whilst towing in France we had a rather nasty experience.  We had just stopped for a break at an Aire and swapped drivers. It was my turn to drive and I was slowly gathering speed and going through the gears when the caravn started snaking rather badly.  i was only travelling about 35 - 40 mph.  By the time I had got the car and caravan back under control we had gone through a 180 degree turn and were facing the wrong way on a dual carriageway!  Fortunately there was no damage and no-one was hurt. The reason for the snaking was a spiked tyre - a 6" new nail had pierced the tyre. There is no way we could have picked the nail up whilst driving.  Apparantly it has been known for such nails to be placed behind the tyres of Caravans whilst on a break.  Please check your tyres before you drive off after having a break. We never now drive off before checking for nails!!!

Had a similiar experience in Spain without the Van coming up a Sliproad car in front stopped opened his boot, came and spoke to my husband (by standing in front of the wing mirror) so we could not see the guy behind slash the tyre with a knife. Luckily we drove off and as they had only just pierced it it did not go down we were some miles up the road so they did not catch up with us to rob us.  Did not realized anything had happened till we took the tyre to be repaired the next day and it was runined.
