Where,s my waterpump ???

This story happened on: 15/03/2012

This is an example of something you would not expect too happen.

I took our van in for a warranty service too a supposed reputable dealers a couple of years back.Picked the van up just in time too go away for the weekend.Getting set up on site when i notice the water system is not working properly.I decide too try my spare (brand new) pump but when i go to get it out of the front locker its gone and in its place is the most disgusting pump i have ever seen.It looked like it had been down a grid. When we return home i go straight too the dealers and ask too see the service manager.I tell him what has happened and show him the grotty pump and ask where my pump has gone.He takes the pump and leaves the office and returns saying that the grotty pump works fine !!!.I say i could have told you that but what he is actually infering is that i have brought in a duff pump and want him too give me a good one for nothing. As soon as this dawns on me my mood changes and i ask him what he,s going too do about it.He as good as says "you cant prove it now on your bike". I  leave the office a very bitter man and minus my new water pump.

Yes, I agree. We should all name and shame when we are treated badly.

Well they were part of a large group that recently went bust so you will probably know the group and the dealer in question had a name beginning with Harringtons.LOL.

Is there an underlying moral to this story: should we as caravanner ’s remove all non fixed kit from our vans before service?  Mine is due for its first service next week !!!

Volvoman, I guess the moral, as ever, is buyer beware.

We purchased our 2004 AS Duetto motorhome in April 2010 from a large dealer, complete with Habitation certificate and 3 yr warranty.

After only about 35 days away took to a local service centre for the 2011 Hab check, only to have them call up and advise the heater was 'totally knackered and dangerous' .. so much for the 2010 Hab check! Fortunately, after the usual argy-bargy, the warranty insurer agreed to pay the £850ish bill and that was quite a relief.

Just made me wonder does anybody have a feel for if this is standard practice for high volume dealers re their secondhand oldish models .. don't fix, dodgy Hab Report, just let the warranty insurer take the pain? Or just incompetence.

In fairness, I do have to say that, apart from a burnt out alternator, there have not been any other major failings with the Duetto .. other that that ongoing rattly water pump...... Hope I'm not tempting fate!
