New this year, but on our 4th trip already

This story happened on: 22/07/2012

We decided to become campers last year, but when on our first trip the man in the caravan next door said "that's how we started, you will be getting a caravan next"....well no truer word was spoken.  This year our next camping trip booked, we started at looking at electric hook up, fridges, a better stove....and then one rainy bank holiday we saw Caravan Finder TV...oh dear the seed was planted.  Shortly after that we purchased our first caravan a 1999 Swift Archway 2 berth.  We went back to Erdingley in Nottingham for our first trip (beautifully clean shower block and fab local ice cream - adult only site...going back next year for our 3rd year); then we went to Eye Kettleby Lakes (best shower facilities by far) with underfloor heating, Watson also met his first girlfriend Cassie; then we went to Rutland Camping and Caravan Site which was very nice too, and now Cherry Hinton Caravan Site...we are off for our 5th trip to Winchester in August and to Quorn in October...we are so hoping we can fit in another couple of weekends before the year is out.  Now in our 40's our friends and colleagues laugh and think we are old before our time...but let me tell you now a caravan called Daisy has entered our lives and become our 2nd home and we see the most beautiful spots and have a chilling out time with each other and the woof....it is perfect try it.

Oh I so agree.  We camped on our honeymoon nearly 40 years ago, Twenty years plus ago we bought our first caravan - Ace Harmony which was 10 years old then.  The joy I had cleaning it and replacing curtains and blinds etc.  We had two good holidays in that but my daughter was coming up to 14 and hated it, so sadly we decided to sell it.  Fast forward to 2010.  We bought our current 'van, a Swift Challenger 540 and  have had some great breaks and holidays in it.  We both decided to retire this June and booked a holiday for mid July when we went to Egypt for two weeks.  All the time I was there, I kept thinking of the upcoming caravan holiday!!, It was fun looking through the books to decide where we were going to stay, and because we had all the time in the world, we booked two sites on the way down to Dorset and two sites on the way back, extending the last stay to 6 days, thus enjoying 3 weeks of total relaxation and comfort in our "Dorothy".  And what became of the stroppy teenager to who hated caravanning?  Well she now has her own caravan (along with a partner and 4 children) and absolutely loves caravanning.  I think if it were possible, she would be away every weekend.  Well wouldn't we all???
