Caravan and Motorhome Club advances accessibility and inclusion across UK Club campsites and digital platforms

The Caravan and Motorhome Club is proud to share a series of accessibility and inclusion developments aimed at supporting its members and guests with visible and invisible disabilities. These initiatives reflect the Club’s long-term commitment to creating a more inclusive touring experience and workplace.

Website Enhancements and Accessibility Hub

Following a detailed content review, the Club has created an Accessibility Hub webpage, making key information easier to locate and understand.  The new Accessibility Hub on the Club’s website brings together resources, stories and support in one centralised location, helping members better plan their touring experiences.

This effort is complemented by member-led discussions and personal stories shared on the Caravan and Motorhome Club’s ‘Club Together’ community platform, including posts from neurodivergent families and those with access needs:

A new Accessibility category has also been introduced to the Club Together platform to support ongoing community discussion and the sharing of experiences.

Improvements Across UK Club Campsites

The Accessible pitch trial has now been expanded to the Sandringham UK Club Campsite, allowing the Club to test further improvements to campsite design and layout. In line with Colostomy UK guidance, new shelves have also been installed in all Accessible bathrooms that previously lacked them to enhance comfort and practicality for members and guests with stoma care needs.

Inclusive Experience Freedom Accommodation

As part of the Club’s commitment to accessible getaways, two further new Accessible glamping units are being added to the Experience Freedom range which means there are five Experience Freedom locations that offer accessible  glamping. The units are designed to offer a comfortable, inclusive stay for guests with a variety of mobility needs.

Staff Training and Awareness

During Dementia Awareness Week (25–29 May 2025), the Club delivered targeted training for staff on how to recognise and support people living with dementia. This important initiative supports the Club’s goal of becoming a Dementia Friendly organisation and complements its support of Hidden Disabilities Sunflower.  The hidden disability Sunflower is a discreet sign that the wearer has a hidden disability and may need additional support.

Improving Communication Accessibility: Relay UK Briefing for Staff

To better support members who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech impairments, the Club issued a Relay UK briefing sheet to its contact centre team in January 2025. Relay UK is a national telecommunications service that allows users to communicate over the phone via text, using a relay assistant. The internal briefing helps staff understand how to handle these calls effectively and with confidence, promoting respectful and inclusive communication for all members and guests.

Commitment to Inclusion and Workforce Development

The Club is actively working towards becoming a Disability Confident employer, supporting inclusive recruitment, training and workplace practices. As part of this journey, staff participating in the Accessibility Project have undertaken training through the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Also, the Club’s membership and participation in Onvero’s (formerly Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion ‘ENEI’) Talent Inclusion and Diversity Evaluation (TIDE) accreditation scheme, reflects a deep and ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive culture and removing barriers, both for staff and for members. The Club was honoured to receive a Bronze Award this year which acknowledged the progress that has been made. Onvero is the UK's leading employer network for equality and inclusion, providing guidance, benchmarking and training to support best practice across sectors.

The Club is proud to have been shortlisted by Onvero in two categories in their 2025 awards, “Inclusive Culture” and “Wellbeing and Belonging at Work”. This national recognition celebrates the Club’s commitment to embedding inclusion across its operations and creating a welcoming environment for members, staff and guests from all backgrounds.

"Accessibility isn’t a one-time project - it’s an ongoing commitment to listening, learning and improving. These developments reflect the voices of our members and guests, and the dedication of our teams to make touring more inclusive for all. We’re proud to work with organisations such as Onvero, Sunflower Hidden Disabilities and Dementia UK and to be developing experiences that ensure no one is left behind when it comes to exploring the great outdoors."  Natasha Shane, Head of Strategic Product Development and Sustainability, and Diversity & Inclusion Champion at the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

Looking Ahead: Invisible Disabilities Week and Future Initiatives

In recognition of Invisible Disabilities Week this October, the Club is celebrating its participation in Sunflower Hidden Disabilities, its progress in becoming Dementia Friendly, the upcoming availability of two further Accessible Experience Freedom glamping accommodation options and being shortlisted as finalists in the Onvero Inclusivity Excellence Awards. These initiatives form part of a long-term plan to ensure all members feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to enjoy the touring lifestyle.

Onvero has acknowledged the Club’s ongoing efforts and its strong commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion across all areas of its operations.
