Why stay here ...

Set on the Babin Kuk peninsula, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Solitudo is split into different areas, all featuring large pitches on hard ground and shaded by mature trees. Several pitches offer views over the water towards the 294m-long Franjo Tuđman Bridge, which spans the Drava River to the west of Dubrovnik.

The site is large and friendly and a part of the Valamar complex. For an extra charge, campsite guests can use the outdoor pool and tennis courts in the nearby Valamar hotel, 10 mins walk from the site. The campsite’s popular restaurant is just off site offering local cuisine and within walking distance there are 2 beaches for a refreshing swim and sunbathing by a popular beach bar.

Solitudo is an ideal base to explore Dubrovnik with its flagstone streets and historic city walls dating back to the 16th century. Visitor can also book an island-hopping boat trip to the Elafiti Islands and soak in the dramatic Dalmatian Coast from the glittering waters of the Adriatic.

Nice site but noisy at times.

Solitudo
Stayed here for two weeks in the beginning of September. Nice big pitches in the area over the road and clean but dated toilets. Please note that this site has no pool but a hotel complex can be used 10 minutes away. This is an extra cost and we were asked for 210 hrk (28 euros) each for a 3 hour stay which we quickly declined. This is too much to pay on top of the very high pitch fees. The bus service into town was cheap and regular. Our first weekend there the camp hosted a rock concert on the Friday and Saturday night which was very loud.

Fabulous site for historic Dubrovnik

Solitudo
We have stayed three happy nights here with our motorhome - 7.5m. Check in was excellent, informative and welcoming. We were informed we could choose our own pitch. The pitches vary considerably- some with no shade, some have sea views, some more shaded and there are different zones too. We liked the freedom to choose (site not full) and whilst ours wasn’t the prettiest of view, we found seclusion and peace - perfect! Security staff patrol the site as you could, potentially, come in via the beach but we encountered no issues. Staff constantly clean the showers, toilets etc. Not the most modern but spotless! There are many steps and slopes to negotiate so probably not an easy site if you had limited mobility. The bus to Dubrovnik is regular and within 5 minute walk (slight uphill). The beach, Copacobana, is ten minutes walk - it’s a pebble beach but well served with many amenities. We opted to arrive by 10am and leave at lunchtime. Best times! To be honest, this site surpassed our expectation and if you’re looking to explore Dubrovnik; this would be a great choice. The restaurant nearby prepared us a lovely, fresh lunch and service was excellent too. It’s well known for its Peka meals (slow cooked over wood under a bell shaped dish)…ran out of time to try but probably should have!

Good in parts

Solitudo
We stayed at Solitudo which is part of the bigger Valimar complex for a week in May 2019. The camp is really split into two sides with a road to a coach and car park and access to the beach clubs running between it. The slip road to the reception also appears to have become a coach park. All of which start moving around 6 am. Mentioned in a previous review the sanitary blocks can be a good distance away from some pitches depending where you are parked. These are good and clean. Renovations of the old pool area are on going to become an outdoor stage area. There is a children's play area on site. Some pitches have very good views but the pitches are not well maintained with calf high weeds etc. All the other facilities are part of the bigger Valimar complex about a ten minute walk away. The pool complex based at the hotel is very nice along with other sports facilities. The positive for this site is good access via the bus to Dubrovnik old town. You can walk it but it's quite a strenuous walk. There are plenty of shops bars and restaurants near by. As far as we could tell this is the only campsite close to Dubrovnik but treat it as a stop over to see the old town. It can command the high prices because there is no other camp site close by.

Good for a short stay in Dubrovnik

Solitudo
Solitudo is in good easy access of Dubrovnik which is a must see City. In terms of the site itself it is very big but below average. There are no real SP pitches as no pitches anywhere on site have independent drainage although they do all have EHU and Water access. The pitches themselves are very rough but that in part is due to the arid terrain. Depending which pitch area you stay at it is a long walk for to the toilets and Chemical Toilet facilities. The pool which is pictured, which is fantastic, is actually at a hotel 10 minutes walk away whilst the small supermarket has very short opening and closing hours. The site is very expensive for what it is and offers but the huge sell point is its location close to Dubrovnik. We booked 4 nights but are leaving early after 3 as we have seen Dubrovnik and the site is just not one of those type you stay at to relax.

Superb location

Solitudo
This was a lovely site and we managed to pitch overlooking the entrance to Dubrovnik harbour and watched cruise ships coming and going. The sanitary blocks were good and the pitch provided electric and water. There was not a waste water point on the pitch which was an inconvenience. Access to the nearby hotel pool was excellent. The old pool on site was a bit of an eyesore and needed to be revamped. The area is beautiful and we would definitely return.
