Based six miles from Carlisle and three miles from Gretna Green, Longtown is a great base for exploring the north of England and south of Scotland.
Take in some of the beautiful countryside close to the River Esk, where there are plenty of stunning pathways to explore for cyclists and walkers alike, as well as some Instagrammable sights!
There is a lot of history in the region, too. Visit the Border Reivers Trail to learn about the “debatable lands” north of Carlisle. These areas were fought over from the 14th to the 17th century as the line of the border was not properly defined.
