Why stay here ...

At Sleepy Hollow Farm we offer the experience of staying in a peaceful and beautiful part of Derbyshire but with the added luxury of on-site amenities such as a toilet and shower block as well as an outdoor pot washing facility. Electric hook-up is also available.

We are a small family-run ‘rare breed’ sheep farm on the edge of the Peak District, situated in the tiny hamlet of Godfreyhole (where “Sir Godfrey” the notorious highwayman reputedly used to take refuge in the small cavern and caves nearby).

Our site consists of a reasonably flat lawned 2.5-acre field which comfortably accommodates 5 spacious pitches. The site is easily accessed and egressed by both caravans and motorhomes as there is a limestone driveway from the roadside entrance which carries on down through the middle of the field. There is also an alternative exit which can be used in extreme wet weather.

For those families bringing children you could occasionally have a visit from Godfrey the peacock who lives his days (and nights) roaming free in the hamlet; as well as seeing some of our hand-reared sheep who are very tame.

The market town of Wirksworth is just a short distance away where you will find many independent shops, a chemist, cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, a fish and chip shop and both Chinese and Indian takeaways. We are also on the doorstep of many interesting places to visit such as Chatworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Alton Towers, Gulliver’s Kingdom, Heights of Abraham, Poole’s Cavern, Go-Ape and especially Carsington Water which is within walking distance from our site and offers various water sporting activities, canoe hire, paddleboards, rowing boats plus the Visitors Centre with its restaurant and shops as well as many outdoor activities such as walking and cycling around the reservoir. Other beauty spots nearby include Mam Tor, Dovedale, both the High Peak and Tissington trails and the Manifold Valley to name but a few.

Both well-behaved children and dogs are most welcome. We look forward to welcoming you to our site and hopefully you will find it the ultimate “get-away” experience.

Peaceful site, tucked away

We spent two nights here in early September. Owners friendly and welcoming. Very pleasant site; grass mown and clippings removed. Slightly sloping, so we did need to use levelling ramps, but no problem. Shower and toilet facility is simple, but very good. Outdoor washing up facility also handy. We were the only ones on site at the time, so had facilities to ourselves. Hand sanitizer available. Excellent cycling and walking from the site, but beware of returning on foot or cycle via the main road from Carsington Reservoir as this is very busy (and no pavement). No EHU at present, but generators available and EHU to be introduced. Peaceful spot and sheltered all around with trees. Would recommend.

Peaceful and relaxing

A little difficult to find but once there were very satisfied with pitch, toilets and shower block. Randall and Kate were very welcoming and had time to chat. Carsington water very close (1/2mile) ideal for cycling but the road to Carsington trail was rather busy with traffic. The site was cut lovely but wedges were needed for levelling of Motorhome. All toilet, shower, water point and disposal were at lower end of field and I would agree with its name of’ Sleepy Hollow’ Very pleasing........

Peaceful weekend

This site is lovely, it did help that we and our friends in a separate campervan were the only campers onsite! Facilities are basic but clean and tidy, one toilet cabin, one shower cabin. Be aware, no electricity but we knew before we went. The owners are friendly and very helpful, happy to give advise on the local area, and onsite if any issues arise. If you want peace and quiet, this is the site for you, we will go again and would recommend.
