Why stay here ...

At Sleepy Hollow Farm we offer the experience of staying in a peaceful and beautiful part of Derbyshire but with the added luxury of on-site amenities such as a toilet and shower block as well as an outdoor pot washing facility. Electric hook-up is also available.

We are a small family-run ‘rare breed’ sheep farm on the edge of the Peak District, situated in the tiny hamlet of Godfreyhole (where “Sir Godfrey” the notorious highwayman reputedly used to take refuge in the small cavern and caves nearby).

Our site consists of a reasonably flat lawned 2.5-acre field which comfortably accommodates 5 spacious pitches. The site is easily accessed and egressed by both caravans and motorhomes as there is a limestone driveway from the roadside entrance which carries on down through the middle of the field. There is also an alternative exit which can be used in extreme wet weather.

For those families bringing children you could occasionally have a visit from Godfrey the peacock who lives his days (and nights) roaming free in the hamlet; as well as seeing some of our hand-reared sheep who are very tame.

The market town of Wirksworth is just a short distance away where you will find many independent shops, a chemist, cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, a fish and chip shop and both Chinese and Indian takeaways. We are also on the doorstep of many interesting places to visit such as Chatworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Alton Towers, Gulliver’s Kingdom, Heights of Abraham, Poole’s Cavern, Go-Ape and especially Carsington Water which is within walking distance from our site and offers various water sporting activities, canoe hire, paddleboards, rowing boats plus the Visitors Centre with its restaurant and shops as well as many outdoor activities such as walking and cycling around the reservoir. Other beauty spots nearby include Mam Tor, Dovedale, both the High Peak and Tissington trails and the Manifold Valley to name but a few.

Both well-behaved children and dogs are most welcome. We look forward to welcoming you to our site and hopefully you will find it the ultimate “get-away” experience.

Beware of the dogs

Sleepy Hollow Farm
Started off very promising, but we have a nervous dog and the roaming pack of big border collies did not make this a relaxing stay for us. There seemed to be about eight of them and usually the owner was nearby. The one leaving a mess right outside our camper was the final straw. We left after one night, despite booking for three. Agree with the other comments re quirky toilet & shower which were very clean and well kept. The owner, Kate sent us plenty of info before our visit, though we didn’t actually meet her. Definitely need levelling blocks. In a good place to access many of the Peak District attractions. Never left a review before, but feel people need to know about the dogs.

Campervan Visit July 2021

Sleepy Hollow Farm
Easy access to well mown site. EHU pitches quite sloping needing levellers. Facilities well cared for and owners kept good overview and were available if required - even offering to get us supplies from the local village if we were in need. However there was quite a lot of road noise and the peacock seemed to delight in waking very early! Access to public footpaths necessitated at least some road walking, with a lot of heavy traffic from the local quarry on the road to Carsington Water and often no verge. There were other units on the adjacent field but these did not impinge upon us being behind trees.

Weekend with friends

Sleepy Hollow Farm
We have just returned from 2 nights at sleepy hollow with good friends, although the pitches are slightly sloping dont let this stop you from visiting a tidy well maintained and very peaceful site.Do not use your Sat nav to find it follow the directions that Kate will send you when you book. and you will have a wonderful peacefull and relaxing stay.

Tucked Away and Most Charming Toilet Block Ever

Sleepy Hollow Farm
We were sent a very useful directions and info pack by the owners prior to arrival. Getting to the site is not straight forward. Access onto the site is a bit bumpy and tight. The owners were so helpful. The EHU side of the site is slopped. Caravans near us were precariously balance on wooden beams. There were problems with the WIFI but the owners couldn't do enough to help with this as there was no TV reception. However, we have upgraded our aerial since then. The toilet block is charming. We washed up there just for the fun of it. Lots of thought, care and attention to detail has gone into its design. The ramp to the chemical disposal point was fantastic. Bit like being in a tree house! Trees circle the site so no direct views but you don't need to travel very far for views. From the site there is lots to do if you cycle or walk. Lovely village pubs a short cycle away.

Relaxing

Sleepy Hollow Farm
Just had a relaxing stay at Sleepy Hollows Farm. We were made very welcome by Kate, Randall and the girls . They all made us very welcome (including Arthur their dog!) and nothing was too much trouble. It is an ideal base for many locations in Derbyshire. Carsington Water is right on their door step, handy for walking or cycling. The toilet and shower facilities were 'quirky' and always clean. We will certainly be returning to this lovely site and location. Many thanks to you all
