Why stay here ...

Lower Withacott is a working farm which has been in the family for over 200 years. We are situated on the high culm ridge of North West Devon which at an altitude of over 180 metres gives commanding views of this beautiful area. Nevertheless this site is well hidden and protected somewhat by trees and Devon banks.

From your caravan or motorhome you will wake up to the sight of rolling hills, wooded valleys and Exmoor in the far distance. If the weather is not so good then inquisitive cattle over the fence or birds in the trees will suffice.

As we are situated very close to Stibb Cross with its roads spreading out into North Devon you will be in easy reach of Dartmoor National Park, RHS Rosemoor and the world famous village of Clovelly. The ancient port of Bideford and neighbouring Appledore offer interesting shops, winding backstreets and a glimpse into Devon's maritime links past and present.

For the more adventurous, book a trip to the stunning Lundy Island and discover puffins, wild sheep and deer and eat in the Marisco Tavern. If you fancy crossing the Tamar into Cornwall, Bude and Morwenstowe are only 30 minutes away.

Walkers are in for a treat as the famous Tarka Trail goes through the parish and is mostly on an old railway line so is fairly easy going. More challenging is the South West Coastal Footpath which winds its way up hills and down dales and promises to exhilarate and exhaust you.

When you have worked up an appetite then book a table at one of the many country pubs or restaurants Devon is becoming famous for. Sample the locally caught seafood and farm reared meat and veg chefs are proud to source.

On a practical note, Devon is notorious for it's narrow lanes and although we live beside one of them it is only 200 metres off the B3227 and 800 metres off the A388. Then after a few metres up our farm lane a very wide entrance to the site is a piece of cake!

A quick test

Lower Withacott
I was looking for a local site so I could practice setting up my awning, making mistakes with no one watching. Lower Withacott was the perfect place quiet and with well manacured lawn. I was on the last pitch so the caravan hid my mistakes from the other pitches. It's the perfect CL all the facilities are A1 and the views are excellent, great welcome from David. Despite only living 9 miles away we may well be back it's so good.

Lovely little CL

Lower Withacott
Very easy access to this site, slight confusion as we pulled off the road but the owner guided us. Level grass site with EHU and water points. Nice views towards Exmoor - very rural. Owner very cheerful - we had a nice chat and he called around again at the end of our stay to check that all had gone well. The site is very quiet and peaceful and quite spacious. The Chemi waste was the best set up we've found so far - OK a bit mundane but it is important and the last thing you generally do at a site. There isn't much in the way of walking from the site though David said that we could walk around on his land. We used it as a base to do the Tarka trail between Bideford and Meeth - cracking cycling. The Bull and Dragon pub in Meeth was worth the effort to get to. We also cycled to the Union Inn in the village - meal was OK but the pub lacked any atmosphere. Definitely, recommend the site
