Hore Down Farm

Why stay here ...
Hore Down Farm C.L. site enjoys perhaps some of the most stunning views in the area. At 264 metres above sea level to the east are views over the River Severn towards South Wales and the Brecon Beacons. Turning to the south there is a panoramic view of Exmoor National Park and on a clear day you can see the Tors of Dartmoor in the far distant. Sadly the western aspect is partially occluded with a Devon bank but it reaches out to Lundy Island (sail from Ilfracombe on a still day). By the above descriptions the site is south facing which can mean daylong sunshine.
The site is easily accessed from a metalled side road through wide gateways to a level grassed area. Pitches are only located on three sides of the site allowing excellent unobstructed views for all caravanners.
We have perhaps some of the best water in the area from our own well where we use multifunctional filters and ultra violet for purity - no chemicals. All pitches have electric hook ups.
There are five beaches in close proximity to the site well known for both bathing and surfing.
For shopping there is a superstore exactly 2 miles from the site providing for all the needs of campers plus other stores in Ilfracombe.
Should you have problems with your outfit there is a well-stocked caravan store and workshop close by.
The town of Barnstaple is of huge historic interest (galleons sailed from the quays here for the Armada) and a must is a visit to the Pannier Market especially on Tuesdays and Fridays.
A championship golf course (Saunton) is 29 minutes away, lake trout fishing 10 minutes and easily located are many children’s attractions and activities. Areas and locations to be visited and within easy reach are Bideford, Clovelly, Hartland Abbey, the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth (known as the little Switzerland of England), Porlock, Dunster and Dunster Castle. Further attractions for the purists are the West Somerset Steam Railway and the restoration of the Lynton to Barnstaple narrow gauge railway running trains throughout the season on a short track.
Campervans and motorhomes by arrangement, 2 dogs maximum.

What a beatiful view even in the awful so called British summer! We just spent 10 nights here and it rained on at least 7 of them, even so there was no problem with drainage or soft ground, the site is well maintained with good recycling facilities and the wall water makes a lovely cuppa. The owner is lovely and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived as he did with all arrivals. A great site with good access and convenient for touring the local area. A great stay and we will definitely use this site again.
