Shaftesbury Certificated Locations

The market town of Shaftesbury is located on a hill overlooking Blackmore Vale in Dorset. The famous ‘Boy on a Bike’ Hovis advert was filmed on Gold Hill in the town, which belies its charming nature.

Having been founded as a citadel featuring a Benedictine Abbey by King Alfred, Shaftesbury can trace its history back more than 1,100 years. Although it has grown since then, much of the town hasn’t changed since the 18th century.

Shaftesbury Abbey is home to an award-winning museum and a casket said to contain the remains of St Edward the Martyr. A peaceful walled garden within its grounds has an impressive collection of Anglo-Saxon herbs.
