Very Peaceful stay - wonderful site

Farmer Giles Farmstead
We stayed for 4 nights with our dogs on this tranquil site to visit family and have a rest. The views were wonderful to wake up to and it was a pleasure to walk round the paddocks to see the horses. There was plenty to do locally and would recommend Tisbury for shopping and the coffee shops. The site had all we needed with good television reception and mobile with wifi available if we wanted it. Tony was welcoming and very helpful and we are already planning on a repeat visit for a week in June.

Fantastic little site in a remote location with access to plenty of walks in the countryside

Farmer Giles Farmstead
What a great place to stay. We spent 2 nights here in such a lovely area. Lots of pub walks and very peaceful. Tony was very friendly and helped us out straight away when we got into a bit of a fix. Very quiet at night, apart from the odd owl! Stunning location - would highly recommend. There is fresh water and a black waste disposal point.

Very quiet spot

Farmer Giles Farmstead
This is a very peaceful spot. Easy to access from the A303. The farmstead is no longer in operation and seems a bit rundown. A bit overpriced compared to many other places.

UNDER USED

Farmer Giles Farmstead

'Farmer Giles Farmstead' no longer operates as a children's open farm which means it is quiet - in fact exceptionally quiet.  The CL sits outside the farmstead and is screened from it by trees to the South but you are free to walk around where there are a variety of farm animals including rare breeds to be seen. The farmstead includes 3 self catering wood cabins that are available to rent which are accessed via the CL but are a distance away and partially screened by the trees. The signs to 'Farmer Giles Farmstead' make the CL easy to find.  The caravan entrance with the normal CL sign is through 2 wide metal farm gates just after the wrought iron gates to the farmstead.  A 300 yard rough track leads uphill to the CL where there is enough space for 5 outfits although this was not put to the test when we visited as we were the only occupant which was quite remarkable given it was the August bank holiday weekend!  The site is an oblong strip of grass that had recently been cut, it's main imperfections caused by mole hills.  It is gently sloping in two directions which means it is necessary to elevate a wheel to stay level.  We had a torrential rain storm and subsequent showers which the ground coped with well.  When we booked the owner intimated there was no terrestrial TV or mobile phone signal so we didn't take our TV but we found that there was a mobile signal and free wifi at the farmstead reception and the radio reception was good. The site has pleasant open views of arable farm fields and distant trees to the West, North and East with no buildings in sight or traffic noise which gives it a remote feel.  The CL is on the Northern edge of Teffont which is a quiet and attractive village and worth a wonder around.  It has no shops or pubs but there is an expensive hotel/restaurant in the South of the village and a fine manor house, church and lake.  The closest pubs are in the neighbouring villages of Chilmark and Dinton.  Dinton has a community shop which we didn't use.  There are further shops at Tisbury and Wilton but the best shops and supermarkets are 1/2 an hour away in Salisbury, Shaftesbury or Warminster.  Within this range, there are plenty of other places to visit and see including Stonehenge.   We saw a hare and a water vole in the local brook which rises in a spring opposite the farmstead.  We also saw and heard owls and red kites.  There are no footpaths from the farmstead but the local unclassified roads/lanes are suitable for walking on which lead to footpaths and bridleways.  To make the most of these you need a good map.  The owner wasn't able to give much advice on walking routes.  We found a couple of local circular walks around Dinton and the Fonthill Estate which was particularly good.  We also walked to the attractive village Chilmark which was also good.  The B3089 is not suitable for walking along less the built up sections which have pavements.  There are 2 local NT properties - the grounds of Phill
