Esso Card VAT

well after following the recommendation that I could save 5-8 pence per litre on fuel by getting an esso card imagine my surprise when I got my first invoice and found that the prices quoted do not include vat. I ended up paying 12 pence more than the esso pump price and nearly 18 pence more than I could have got the fuel at the local supermarket. Seems to me that it’s a big con. Needless to say I shan’t be using it again. Shame on you for recommending it.

Have you checked and read through all the paperwork? I know you've signed up now and learnt a very hard lesson if the fact that the savings quoted were net of VAT was not mentioned in maybe worth pursuing with the club??

I did not investigate the offer at all but VAT flashed through my mind, businesses generally price net of VAT.

There is a thread on the discussions section running and someone has put a link to your story to raise awareness.

Oh Dear. If true and not a misunderstanding then that is not good at all Tomo

I have just looked at the T&C's and no mention of VAT being added. Having said that many companies will list VAT separately, especially if they also deal with other customer who can claim the VAT back. Whilst I have not spent a lot of time looking at this offer I understand you are informed by text or email the fuel prices for the coming week? Are you saying that the price you were charged is higher than this weekly bulletin price? On other forums there seem to be some very happy customers using this card. Perhaps you need to contact the people running the Esso Card to see what they say and come back here if there is still a problem and I am sure Rowena will pass the information on to the relevant department.

think you must have done something wrong ie looked at price of normal fuel and put premium in instead and that's what you've payed for. trading standards and the advertising authority would take them to court for doing what you say they have done. check your receipts again and if your correct then give Esso a call.
