Non EHU & enforced EHU

The Sandringham National was EHU take it or leave it, I have spoken with several of my centre ralliers, and about 50% said they would have liked a choice, as most ralliers are geared up for off grid, many vans now come with solar panels, I for one would have preferred non EHU, certainly didn't use £ 5 worth of electric a day with only a 6 amp supply.

There were certainly not enough pitches this year, I heard several people complaining before and after the rally that they could not get a place, and walking around the site there appeared to be many unsused area, so I can only assume that the rally was setup around the available electric points and generators etc.

Could someone from the club confirm if all future nationals are going to be EHU only, and why this will be so, I personally consider this a bacwards step.

No.  I believe that the price for non Ehu in 2011 was £75 and with Ehu £105 again in 2011.

I assume that the club has official records of the prices.  So if I am wrong then they can correct me. Indeed they could publish a list of prices of the last period of time.  However in the post from the "Events committee" lots of percentages were quoted with no actual data to back them up.

This years national has been proclaimed a great success but I have been unable to find anywhere how many outfits attended and how that relegated to previous years and previous National's at Sandringham and what the capacity will be for next years National. If these figures are available can some point me to them?  If they aren't available why not?

We did a day visit to this years National and was advised there were 1500 units on site = 2 persons? per unit?

Forgive my ignorance, but the only generators I am familiar with are diesel ones and we are now told how bad for us and the environment diesel is.  Or are there other fuelled types, with less or no environment impact at all?  Which are used at the National?  Just curious to know, as I wouldn't go to a National with EHU, if it was polluting the air around me.

The generators are diesel, very large and very noisy and lots of them!

Last year we had a choice between ehu and non ehu. The club has every right to make a profit but could have chosen to encourage good environmental practices and lessen the costs for those who choose not to waste energy.

I understand this years national had fewer places available? when we visited all the units we noticed were connected to the EHU,and the near generator to some friends we visited did not sound very noisy as it seemed to be in a sound deadening cabinet?and there was no smoke

I can assure you they are noisy JVB. Luckily last year we were well away from the nearest one but some were not so lucky.

If you've ever been to a fairground or big event there is always background noise from generators

@atn NickH.

You are effectively denying people choice the supplying of electric has a cost.  Whether that cost represents value for money is a personal assessment.  I am not suggesting and not one single post on here has suggested that there shouldn't be an EHU option for those that want it or think that they need it ,need it.

£25 for a bottle of gas money-mouth  You need to look at alternatives

I think noisy is a perception and of what your usual enviroment is,as is noted by reviews about sites, where some think noisy others do not, we live in an area that we can at times think is noisy ,yet some friends who stay with us at times,(when visiting London) say how quiet it is ,and they live in a little village near Newark

Boff,

I don't think your assumption on EHU costs from 2011 still stands.

i have attended the National every year since 2013, two years ago I booked a pitch with two adults and EHU and it cost me £121.00. This year the same pitch with two adults cost me £101.00

the way I look at it was the EHU was free on the basis that I paid £20 less.  I do appreciate that the EHU is paid for and is included in the fixed fee, but as I paid £20 less, I just look at it and say the EHU is free. I also consider the gas I use. A Calor Gas bottle costs me £25 for a refil, I don't use any gas at the National, I only use the EHU. Electric kettle, electric ring on the Caravan, the microwave, water heater, the fridge and so on. Used sensibly you don't trip the EHU.

i think it's personal choice, you either agree to pay the fixed fee and attend, and use the EHU or not,  or you decide that you don't like the offer and choose to go elsewhere. It the same as everything you do all your life. It your choice no one is forcing you to attend.

NickH I agree with you on this. It is so convenient to have electricity on site and, as you suggest, provided it is used appropriately. Following  this discussion it is clear that the committee has stated that next year's National will continue to be all EHU, consequently members will make their own choice as to whether or not they attend. Not sure about the overall number of outfits that were at Sandringham however there was an attendance list in the Souvenir Programme given to those who were at the National, this may shed some light on the numbers present.

No JVB, when I say noisy I mean noisy. My working life was in a very noisy manufacturing environment and I think I know what noise is. I also live in a farming area, plenty of noise there. So if I could choose   a slightly quieter camping area even at a big event I'd be happy. smile

Back in 2012 I questioned the cost of EHU at the National here on this discussion forum. It was then £6p.n. The reason I questioned it was because with the same equipment used at the temporary Olympic games site the cost was £2 less p.n. at £4. Someone from the events committee replied that the difference was due to the cost of getting the equipment from the Club's store to site. I accepted this explanation as perfectly resonable. Given that transportation cost will be different for each National, the costs are unlikely to be the same every year but I cannot see them being less than £4 p.n. and it is still a great shame the choice to go without will no longer be available.

Unfortunately with the upgrade of the site the conversation about the costs is no longer available.
