Club Magazine used to send us unwanted junkmail

Really ,really annoying -

Open up the club magazine and  each month it appears to contain more and more unwanted junk mail.more than usual this month  including one from Friends of the Earth (in its own additional envelope)   one for funeral sevices  and the now regular 'drink yourself silly ' with our giant  selection box of wines (obviously in  'advertiser speak'  this junk mail is targeted at this typical magazine  reader profile type and age, US !)  -  Grrrrrrrrrrr  !!

Have otherwise registered with the mail preference system and the telephone preference system to try to  try reducing  unwanted junk mail and nuisance 'sales' calls .

I know you can opt to go 'paperless' but some of us actually like to have a magazine you can physically take to a quite place and read away from the virtual  interactive 'digital screen' world in our own space just for a while.

Why does the club decide that  the magazine is used as a  vehicle to send us annoyingly  useless  unwanted junk mail that  is 99,90%  NOT  Motorhome or Caravan related and will go straight into the paper recycle bin !!!!!!!!!!!!!.

If the club want to fund the magazine by advertising thats fine.  I always find that whatever the club advertise or allow to be advertise is way too pricey so I ignore it all and the leaflets go into the bin.  We did, however, buy a G tech vacuum cleaner and that was a good dealwink

Sick to the back teeth of the crap junk mail we get with the club magazine . Literally open it over the bin . Read a similiar topic about it with ‘the other caravanning club’ and they are taking measures to reduce it , i see we are sadly stuck with it with this club . Wish we could opt in if we want to receive it , but thats never gonna happen where there’s ££££s to be made , regardless of the environmental cost

You need to read the Staff members reply on this subject on page two of this discussion so that you have some context as to why and how such advertising material is monitored and how it helps contribute towards the cost of the magazine.

Singling out the CAMC is a little unfair. Our postie delivers a lot more than what comes in monthly mag. Much of it does not have a name or address, so I assume the Royal Mail make money out of it to help keep the cost of the service down.😀

we endeavour to make hobby specific and or relevant to the demographic

Alcoholic, mobility impaired and shortly to shuffle off this mortal coil. Hmm, if that's the membership a name change isn't going to help much.

Sadly whilst I make no  comment on the alcoholic part (but acknowledge that alcohol, but not necessarily its consumption,  is an omnipresent feature of life in the UK and many other European countries) I fear CYs  analysis of the demographic is near the mark and the Club will have to adapt to survive as its members fall off the end of the conveyor belt of life.

On a more humorous note my very numerate four year old grandson looking at his 1--100 number chart and comparing his position on row one and our position on the third row from the bottom assumed that we would fall off the chart when we got to the end of the last row "so you don't have too long to go granny"

Can you guess why I don't by a Sunday paper?

Love CY's interpretation of the CMC demographic. An opinion which has been often shared by many of my Caravanning friends. smilesmilesmile

There was a programme on radio 4 this morning about ageing. It mentioned the target market of ads for the over forties was being revised and rethought. Instead of reducing everyone to decrepit inactive wine swigging elasticated waisted  "has beens" the idea now was to get us all up on our toes and invigorate us for adventurous longer lives...you have been warned! wink
