Glamping Pods

Reading through this months club magazine im disappointed to read that the club continues to use its fund to invest in an increasing number of glaming pods on sites!  Gary Martin covers the level of investment on site, which at times isn't always seen.   I must say having visited a number of sites this year, there are still a number requiring a little TLC here and there, therefore its disappointing that the Caravan and Motorhome club seem to be heading down this  path.

Pods at troutbeck head and park coppice coniston take up much need touring space, disproportionate to regular pitches.  As the sector has seen exponential growth and with sites continually full most weekends, it is frustrating to see the size of the land turned over to these pods, the picture on page 11 of the club magazine clearly demonstrates an increasing trend to prioritise the highest bidder.

Just last week I visited a site which did not adequately accommodate motorhomes, with the service point requiring significant modernisation.  I value the club, the standard of facilities and consitancy if approach however the investment in pods is a worrying trend for which I do not see the value in my subscription, I urge the club to get back to basics and concentrate on its core business before it becomes another souless mobile home park!

They could equally have spent the money on providing overnight parking for motorhomes/camper vans. That would have probably been a better investment  Motorhomes and camper vans are not going to dispappear any time soon in fact sales growth is more likely to continue and I don't think it will be too far off before electric ones will be available.

I think this ones done the rounds several times before PD. Whilst I might find a use for such a facility, there would be a whole section of members who would not be able to use them. That certainly isn't the case with Pods, Yurts etc, which can be hired by anyone.

So it has Steve and it is not going to go away anytime soon. People join the Cub because they have tourers not because they want to Glamp. I don't think it will be too long before motorhome ownership exceeds that of caravans. Motorhome registrations this year are up from 250K to nearly 300K. How many of these are members of the Club? Being generous, perhpas 50 percent? The rest neither want, need or are willing to pay for the full camp site facilities that they never use.

If COVID continues to inhibit Continental touring there is going to be a lot of pressure applied for low facility stopovers for motorhomes/campervans.

I'll repeat what I said in another thread:

The Club is moving far to slowly to keep up with the more nomadic requirements of the motorhome owning public It is still stuck in the rut providing facilities for those who want to stop several days on sites for their holidays. That is fine if that is what I do now and again but it really does not meet the requirements of touring with a motorhome.

Why not start your own thread, PD, about overnighting for MHs (again) rather than hijack Bryn's which is about the provision of glamping pods at the expense of regular pitches. You've introduced a red herring here.

Part of your post "sdvises"that m/cvan owners join the club and do not need all the facilities?  but then it may also be that as has been posted on here   only need a stopover for one night ,which is what can be achieved now , as this club still allows one night bookings all week which others do not allowwink

Don't consider it a red herring at all TW, it just reinforces the OP in that money is not being spent on providing touring facilities.

Shows very little in that regard. There are some that do not wish for facilities as provided on most sites including EHU. Yes motorhome numbers may have grown - no idea what the increases are in caravans, motorhomes campervans etc.

Of the motorhome increases I suspect that a portion will use CMC and a proportion won't. Maybe the portion of the motor home users are looking for sites that offer less for less others evidently are not. If the sites do not provide what you want why remain a member? There must be a reason.

Maybe like many, he only remains a member to be able to access CLs.
