Glamping Pods

Reading through this months club magazine im disappointed to read that the club continues to use its fund to invest in an increasing number of glaming pods on sites!  Gary Martin covers the level of investment on site, which at times isn't always seen.   I must say having visited a number of sites this year, there are still a number requiring a little TLC here and there, therefore its disappointing that the Caravan and Motorhome club seem to be heading down this  path.

Pods at troutbeck head and park coppice coniston take up much need touring space, disproportionate to regular pitches.  As the sector has seen exponential growth and with sites continually full most weekends, it is frustrating to see the size of the land turned over to these pods, the picture on page 11 of the club magazine clearly demonstrates an increasing trend to prioritise the highest bidder.

Just last week I visited a site which did not adequately accommodate motorhomes, with the service point requiring significant modernisation.  I value the club, the standard of facilities and consitancy if approach however the investment in pods is a worrying trend for which I do not see the value in my subscription, I urge the club to get back to basics and concentrate on its core business before it becomes another souless mobile home park!

Maybe like many, he only remains a member to be able to access CLs.

The CMC need to get the balance right between respecting the requirements of their core membership who tour and responding to "market developments" viz Glamping Pods.I share the concerns of BrynJones that the CMC may be in danger of getting this balance wrong. There is no evident shortage of Static Caravan Parks with units for hire.Touring pitches have been in short supply on many of their sites in the recent past.Membership Organisations  which move too far away from the values of their core membership in pursuit of other novel, minority agendas  inevitably finish up with "problems" .Just a thought.

Much depends on how much of the membership are "fair weather" campers, the all year round use they make or don't make on site pitches. If sites which stay open are relatively quiet during the winter months it will be interesting to see if the static provision makes any difference to site income?

I cannot imagine that the demand for Glamping on sites would be high in the winter months. Certainly on the sites I have been on in the cooler months where they have been available, I have never seen them occupied.

PD, the ones I’ve used have been all season with heaters, the one I used at the turn of the year was toasty👍🏻. Last year during the Summer I found I had to go to 2nd & 3rd choices due to the pods being booked up🤷🏻‍♂️

I relaise they have heaters Rocky but still think they will not be so attractive in the winter. I may get chance to check it out if I get to Moreton this winter.

If folk like winter LV’ing then they’ll have no issue with staying in a similar sized ‘cabin’ PD🤷🏻‍♂️

Peedee the type of unit at Moreton is basically a mini static, built by Swift leisure, they're popular on many camping sites not just CAMC. They're called an S Pod and are built for all year use.

Friends of ours had to give up touring this year for health reasons. Their family still tour, so using a Glamping Pod at Coniston has enabled them to holiday together.

Camping Pods are just that, a wooden hut with a plug, sleeping space, essentially a wooden tent, but warmer and dryer.

The Glamping Pods and Cabins are totally different. Think a tiny apartment, with full comfort, catering and en-suite supplied.

We have considered using Glamping Pods in Winter, but the price puts us off. We can often find a two person cottage for a similar price, but with more room. That said, still an option to consider. The ones at Cayton will take four adults, not just two.
