Membership fees and request by Club to continue

Today I received an email as most likely all club members have regarding the Membership Fees and the request that we consider continuning membership.

I/we support that request and for the following reasons:

I/we have been members for a few years now, we have enjoyed the membership, the sites and facilities along with the website and whilst we haven't always agreed with some of the site policies we have continued our membership.

These are tough times for us all and on so many different levels and whilst I do understand that it is a question of prioritising where finances are concerned (same for us) we feel that the club has benefited us greatly over the term of our membership, we're kind of proud to be a part of it.

Businesses like individuals will be hard pressed in the months to come, the Club did not get to where it is now by shrinking from it's responsibilities, neither did it get there by complacency, it got there by virtue of it's management making good decisions, by taking action when it needed to and importantly because of it's loyal members, combine the two and you can see why it's a club to stay with and continue to stay with.

In short, for us personally we will continue to pay our membership/remain a member, we won't be asking for refunds, reductions or extensions , we feel that the best support we can give the club right now is to continue our subscription throughout this terrible situation we all find ourselves in.

Of course, how we proceed won't be everyones cup of tea but in some sense diversity can add cohesion. Please keep in mind that whilst our stance may not be yours, it is ours and we like you have the ability to choose which way we're going.

We hope to holiday later in the year by taking up our annual booking, but if we are unable to because we're still in quarantine, well we can't, nothing we can do about it, it's 'life' ....which right now seems more precious than ever.

Again the club is discriminating again those member who may only want to use a club site occasionally, or use a non-facility site for a few nights at a time, as far as I can see. There must be many members who would not spend £120 on a single booking as there is no indication that the value of a £120 voucher can be split.

It states the following, Nellie -

"Caravan and Motorhome UK Club Site Vouchers will be sent in denominations of £10 and £20."

After seeing the CCC information regarding membership extension until the situation resolves itself CAMC may rethink its membership policy. On a positive note they altered their mayday breakdown policy to be similar to CCC arrival cover, so they may do the same with membership. A sobering thought I bet the 120000 that have died would sooner be alive and forefitted £50

Yes, I received the same email. I'm also a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club, (CCC) and there are some serious differences between the two organisations. Firstly CCC are automatically extending the length of membership to compensate for the loss of use. Secondly the letter makes great play on the fact that executive members receive no pay, which is of course true, but the other directors do, and a pro-rata comparison shows that this club is paying some people a lot more than CCC, with a massive difference in pro rata pensions. It may of course be the wardens - but I very much doubt that. It would be helpful if this club were to publish the salaries/pensions etc. of top staff, after all, it IS 'our' club. Thirdly, the site costs of this club have massively outrun inflation over the years, and it is noticeable that no prices are included with the annual site book. Finally, the Director General, Nick Lomas, tells us that he has taken the 'tough decision' to furlough 800 staff, along with half the East Grinstead staff, and put them on the Government's (taxpayers') financial support line. He personally has 3 other jobs according to Linkedin - but I can find no mention of any reduction of salary or pension payments for him or other highly paid 'leaders'. Yes, the staff we meet are almost invariably excellent - but he's left the taxpayer to fund their income whilst apparently continuing to take his. And what really stings is the heading to one paragraph in that letter, 'Working together to ensure our future'. Of course I could be wrong in this, and it might be that the top earners at our club are too shy to tell us that they too are taking a cut in income. If so, please don't be shy, tell us that you are indeed, 'all in it together', and I may change my mind about not renewing my long membership. And you might like to tell us why CMC cannot copy CCC in extending membership.

If you click on the CAMC logo left top of this page you can read "the address" from Nick Lima's.

First of all can I suggest to Tin Wheeler that he should read ALL the comments on here and the other parts of the discussions not included in this thread and not necessarily on this page, when he refers to my comment he so kindly puts in quotes. In actual fact, it had nothing to do with the members comments that have been removed; although there were one or two things on there which were relevant to my comment.   Unfortunately, this issue was so important to some members that  the  points i was raising  seemed to not be important or relevant.

I see that one of the members' comments has actually been removed.  So you are correct it seems, freedom of speech does not apply.

Why should someone leave the club because they seemingly don't agree with the idea that the club is not following the trend of others?

I thought this was a club owned by its members and not just the few. There are people who have paid their subscription already who may to be able to afford to waste money.

I believe I have read them all but it doesn’t alter the fact that you didn’t explain you meant other threads. If one states something in a particular thread, it is logical to assume it is that particular thread one is referring to.

Of course I’m correct about freedom of speech as anyone who has read the T&Cs/Guidelines knows.

Other than that, I can’t see that your points are actually relevant to my earlier post in which I said it is up to the individual to do as they see fit regarding their membership. I’m not trying to influence anyone.
