The one thing I noticed with the C&CC is that they don't seem to have site plans, or do they and I haven't noticed? I usually look at unfamiliar sites to get and idea of where about we might like to choose a pitch. With the option of a choice of pitches and types it would be good to 'see' before arriving so you can book in the area of choice.

Posted on 07/02/2018 01:02 by KjellNNWe have booked a few CCC sites for this year, all hardstanding. Do they have different sizes of hardstandings, or can you use an awning on all of them? And do all hardstandings cost the same?
Our Fiamma is broken, so for our first trip we had said "no awning" , but now we have ordered a new lightweight porch type awning and would like to try it out.
Will we be able to try it out or do we need to ring them to change our bookings?

Camping Club HS pitches are normally 5m wide by 6+m front to back, often cars are parked on the grass along side your aquaroll. Sizes do vary.
When you book CCC online it asks > awning ? yes or no, and total width of your outfit, caravan & awning or MH and awning.. Don't know about phone bookings, I always do it online but I expect its similar.
I think they reserve pitches to suit the outfits that they are expecting.
In the summer therefore I state a 5.0m width as we have a canopy and a small utility tent, and in the winter a 2.5m as we just have the van.
I would ring them just to confirm your new awning and increased width overall.
If you qualify for the age related discount, I think over 60 now, the first time you go to a site take proof of age and they amend your details on the system so it can be applied. Its not available in peak season or B.Hols I believe.

Almost every C&CC site I have been on the hardstanding pitches have been smaller than the average CMC hardstanding but that has never been a problem things like awning just spill over onto the grass. I did notice on the Cambridge site they were a bit larger but that was the exception rather than the rule. (There could be other sites where this is the case which I have not visited) I suppose CMC hardstandings have to be of a certain size to allow you to pitch to the peg whereas on a C&CC site the site manage advises how you can pitch which might include the suggestion that you go in nose first in order to get the sunny side of the pitch. I don't think you need do anything in advance, just discuss your requirements when you arrive.

Thanks to both of you, I will get OH to ring our first site (Moffat) and see what they say, then only ring the others if they advise it is necessary.
We used Cambridge and St Neotts last year, which do have large gravel HSs, and Salisbury which had much smaller reinforced grass type HSs, and I think at least one of the 5 that we have booked for this year also has reinforced grass. It was fine, the only problem we had was that the steps tended to slide on the plastic if it was wet. Easily sorted with a couple of pegs.
We sorted the over 60s discount at Salisbury, so we now have it on our cards. It certainly results in a worthwhile reduction.

Moffat was revamped and has plenty of good pitches, there used to be a lot more grass there but things have changed. If you've stated you'll be using an awning you should be ok and have a reasonable amount of choice when you arrive. I think you're going to Derwentwater where there are plenty of good new pitches so you'll find that's ok too. If you prefer to be near the facilities you'll need to request this as with the CAMC.

We have booked Moffat, Dunbar, and Scone for the school Easter break, not a peak time in Scotland with CCC so we still get the over 60s discount.
These are the sites where we did not think we would have an awning to use ( the Fiamma Zip being on its last legs, but now we have decided not to try to get a new roof for it but to ditch it instead and get something else ) so we ticked "awning....no".
Then, a few days back, OH was looking at sun canopies and came across the Sunncamp Swift 390 which it a canopy with fixed sides but no front, and seems ideal for us as last year we used only the Fiamma roof plus one side.
We should have it by the end of this month, so if the weather is reasonable over Easter it would be good to try it out, hence my question.
For our summer trip we have said "awning....yes" as we reckoned we would have the decision on what to do sorted by then, so those sites will be fine.
Still finding our way with the CCC booking system!
