Who owns the 'club'

There has been much talk in the 'new name' discussion as to if the CMCC is a club or not. So should the CEO and Chairman decide to vote through a decision to sell the club and all its millions of assets to an equity company or commercial operation (as other clubs have), where would the proceeds be distributed; there's an interesting question, any ideas.

Under the area of club together / terms and conditions,

The website and Online Community is owned and operated by The Caravan Club Limited, company number 646027, registered office is East Grinstead House, London Road, East Grinstead, West Sussex, RH19 1UA, United Kingdom ('The Caravan Club'). In these terms and conditions, "we" "us" and "our" mean The Caravan Club.

The Camping and Motorhome Club appears to be a trading name of the Caravan Club Ltd. Trading names are fairly common in business.

The Caravan Club Ltd is the holding company and holds the assets. It is not a commercial company though and is a device to protect the members assets if the club should go into liquidation and gives certain trading advantages.

In practice in makes no difference to members and is best ignored.

I read it like this,

The caravan and motorhome club is an organisation to which I pay a small subscription of £49 per annum. Having paid my subscription, I can now call myself a member, which allows me to use their club sites, and others at a discounted rate. I can also use their insurance services and get advice from their legal team.

Much like other clubs, Golf, fishing, car owners clubs the "subs" are paid by it's members solely to generate cash for the club.

If my golf club decides to make that rather easy par 4 on the fifth hole, a handicap busting 600yrd par 5, no amount of tantrum throwing will sway the decision makers, so I've just got get on with it.

If I cause enough of a stink, I may get my membership suspended or even terminated, I'm just a lowly member, a grunt.

But I trust that the club has got its own best interests at heart.

And will do everything within its power to make being a member a rewarding experiences.

I really don't care if it's called "The tin homes on wheels club".

Dave.

Hi guys, in response to 'who owns the Club':

The Club is owned and run by its members. The Executive Committee (all of whom are long-standing members) are your elected representatives, i.e. the company directors, and are not paid. The Club has no borrowings and pays no dividends so it is not diverted from its sole purpose of serving members.  All surpluses are reinvested in Club services – overwhelmingly in the extension and development of your UK sites network. The legal entity remains ‘The Caravan Club Limited’, a company limited by guarantee, which is fully explained in the ‘Articles of Association’ and ‘The Club and how it works’ on the website.

i agree, we should have been consulted, balloted for the new name, if it is our club then maybe the exec committee should be removed at the next agm and replaced by people who listen to the members.

I am sure that is possible but you do realise that you and other like minded members would have to be prepared to put yourself forward for election in order to change the status quo. You would also have to be prepared to take on the full mantle of responsibility for running the Club. So to some extent the ball is in your court.
