Automatic satellite dishes need recalibrating

I found out today that the Astra 28 Satellite could not be found by my Teleco Dish. I tried moving pitch then when leaving London to return to Norfolk stopping twice to see if I could get a signal lock. No luck at all.
I then called my Teleco man in Newmarket who before I could explain he said...”you can’t get Astra 28.”

He informed me that the Satellite that provides most of our British channels  had gone off line and my Teleco  needs to be recalibrated.

Evidently this happened three weeks ago and it appears none of the Satellite dish providers for our Motorhomes have bothered to contact any of us.

I called the club and they suggested I join this forum.

Like most of us I hadn’t used my Motorhome for 6 weeks. Luckily I was on a one night trip  However if I was just off to tour Scotland or Europe I would have had a big problem as I am an avid sports fan and use Astra 28 a lot.

If you have an automatic Satellite Dish go check it out immediately. If it doesn’t work contact the manufacturer or your installer.

It took just 5 minutes to reprogram. Big thanks to Mike at Van Systems Newmarket for fixing this for me.

Hope this helps a few of you.

Yes for those with automatic dishes this has been a topic for a number of weeks on various forums.

Glad you got yours sorted before a longer trip.

"He informed me that the Satellite that provides most of our British channels had gone off line and my Teleco needs to be recalibrated."

I am intrigued if the satellite(s) providing our UK channels has gone off line, how simply "recalibrating" a dish set up gets them back?

There must have been something different changing to what was stated by that reseller.

I haven't noticed any problems and I was only using it yesterday. What has actually changed, frequency, position or what?

Teleco told me it was all makes affected but my dealer said it was just Teleco. What make is your dish.

I thought exactly the same. Astra 28 is still there and functioning. It’s obviously something else affecting possibly just Teleco. Wonder if other makes have a similar issue.

I had the same happen to my Mecatronic dish over a year ago. It just needed a software upgrade which usually requires a laptop and a USB cable to connect the two if you want to do it yourself. I think most automatic dishes seem to suffer from this problem from time to time.

Thanks, that explains it to a certain degree, my dish is a TracVision. It is usually only changes to transponder frequencies which effect tracking but I guess it is down to how different manufacturers find and lock onto the satellites. I have not had to adjust mine since the major reconfiguration  and the introduction of 2G.

P, Teleco (exclusively) uses a 'pairing code' from each satellite to lock on to the correct one...this particular method was chosen over others as these codes 'would never change'undecided..thanks Astra

the software update addresses this issue but care needs to be taken as their are thee basic updates to choose from..

normal flat sat models, auto skew models and internet compatible models.

many forums now with info on this issue.
