Parking a motorhome

Hi

We are considering buying a motorhome 6m to 7m in length and no more that 3m in height. Storage off road is not a problem when not in use and parking on site is clearly easy. Our worry is how easy is it to park a MH of this size when visiting towns/cities and tourist attractions both in the UK and in Europe. Are there any hints/tips/tricks that anybody can share? Or is the advantage of no towing and fast setup on site outweighed by difficulty in parking the unit when out and about on holiday?

We are concerned that the idea of motorhome ownership may be spoilt by restricting where it can be parked. For example, if visiting Birmingham for a day, are there places where the vehicle can be parked be it car park, on road parking, park and ride etc. Any experience or advice on this subject will be gratefully received.

Birmingham is just an example, this applies to all cities/towns (eg Nantes France, Rotterdam Netherlands, Brugges Belguim etc) and/or tourist attractions.

As cities go I don't mind York, Chester or Worcester, but they are not really more  than big towns anyway. The one city I would like to return to is Stockholm, but it would have to be with a local as a guide, just as it was last time we visited.

St David’s is lovely. Unique in terms of City size, but has more of interest than many huge cities. I had a week at Twr Y Felin Adventure Centre back in the early 90’s, superb week. Although I recall being immersed in water for most of it!😁

I want to go back to Athens again. I was too young to appreciate most of what I was looking at really, but will never forget the Acropolis.......nor having my brand new gold bracelet taken off my wrist in the Plaka☹️ Insurance covered it though.

Returning to the OP  its not  access to towns and cities that has kept us from going down the motorhome route with its obvious advantages for ease of travel, its more the more mundane aspects such as shopping and space and comfort on long stays. However we have visited many of the great cities of Europe simply by selecting a site with public transport links and if its towns and  cities you are particularly interested in it makes little difference whether you MH or caravan.

I think if we did what you do, I would stick with caravan as well. One of reasons we kept ours is to enjoy a long month away like we used to do down in Cornwall.

Athens is definitely on our future plans to visit.

I can fully understand your reasons to wishing to return as what we see/ appreciate when we are much younger is different as we get older with more time.

I'm not criticising but I what do find harder to understand is those who return to places they know well and have seen 80% of rather than exploring new places. Last year we visited Rome (4 days), Pisa ( 11/2 days) and have previously visited  Venice ( 2 days) and Florence  (3 or 4 days) which were all fantastic and I'm sure we have not seen every single area of interest, however we are highly unlikely to ever visit again preferring to  search for new cities in Italy or wherever.

We seem to have drifted away from the original discussion.
