Site Guide and CL Web Site Prices

Is there any official instruction in force to compel CL owners to update their price guide shown on the clubs website to that shown in the official site guide?

I have noticed that a couple of CLs we have stayed at this year have increased their price by £1 per night in the site guide but their prices have not yet been upgraded on the clubs internet pages. So is there a rule in force and if not should there be? What control or supervision does the club undertake?

Personally I always check when making a booking but if the lower web price is left in force for a long time then this is misleading and can leave a sour taste if it differs by a large amount.

Moderator Comment - Just added CL into the title so this does not get confused with another on going discussion.

Maybe Maddie can clarify the situation for us. As the CL owners obviously inform the club about amendments including prices is the onus on the club to inform another dept so that paper records such as site guides and digital ones such as found on the clubs own website are harmonised? Presumably the CL owner cannot access their own page on CMC website to carry out such amendments.

Could a CL owner provide some insight. Please!

From what I remember when talking to AlanGL7, at Bibury, he would submit a form, sent out by the club, in the Autumn, with updates for the following year including price changes.

As you say we could do with a current CL owner giving us the facts.

Not quite correct, the form is for a new hand book, we are asked if there are any changes from the previous book. It is possible to have changes to your CL data on the Webb site, you just have to tell the CL department what they are. That is the theory, practice can be a different story. We have had no problems but I am aware others have.

So is the CMC supposed to update your data on the web pages after you have informed them of the changes? I can only assume that if you let them know that the price needs to be amended for the site directory then they do not update the web but do include the price in the new book. So when do your prices get updates on the web? By further prompting from the CL owner? What about other changes, such as telephone numbers or amenity changes? I know we are informed of these through the magazine or app but do the club undertake the updates mid term, so to speak?

Edit - Just re-read my post and it sounds a bit antagonistic to CL owners. Not meant to be. Just trying to understand who is responsible for what.

Thanks for the insight, wildemere. It would be good to hear from HO what they think that they do and what CL owners are expected to do to ensure that both the web site and the handbook are showing the same information.....but I doubt that we'll not be told as they don't appear to be able to co-ordinate the two.

I did ask on their FB page why the difference in prices in the book and webpage and this was the reply I received.    The website will always have the most up to date information. The prices in the guide will always be a from price 😊 ~Meg

Well there's interesting! Not what Wherenext reports in the OP and Wildmere doesn't seem convinced.

The “from” price in the handbook makes sense to me. It’s an at a glance price, I doubt CL owners get much space to put more in the handbook. This is possibly only price mentioned as it goes to print.

Again, “from” on the webpage top right shows the very cheapest price, much like Club Sites do. You have to read down in the main page to pick up any variances, such as seasonal variation, or add ons for extras such as awnings, children, dogs, hook up up etc......

Most of the CLs we have used tend to have a price variance somewhere, which is why we always phone or email before booking. Best to get clarification. More are coming online now with their own websites, which are more reliable than the Club webpage, being controlled by the CL owner. In the past we have been caught out by a stated price, only to find the showers are £1 a time, which bumps a stay up if you use every day!

Some sites have offered a cheaper price for a solo traveller,  had this a few times when OH was on his own. Owner flexibility is good, perhaps won’t work on a busy CL, but means staying solo, can match a solo Club Site price at some places.

To be honest, I take the price guide for CLs on this website with a very large dose of salt since some of them show prices from 3 or so years ago. So when I enquire, usually by email, I always ask for the up to date price. Having said that, 2 of the 3 we've booked so far for 2019 have quoted the price shown. smile

Take the price that some of them tell you with a dose of salt. In 2017 I had 2 cl’s quote a price when I have booked only to have put the price up between me booking and arriving some months later. Beware of this tactic.

I spent a rather frustrating time last night, looking for CL'S for a trip in May, details /prices  differ on Web page to SD book. Sometimes the SD book is more up to date than the CL Web page and other times its the other way round. yell Emailed  one CL web/ book price both said from £15 but was told price this year was £20!  So neither had been updated frown Good job I checked., or it would have been a bit of a shock embarassedlaughing

After last night's cl searching it wasn't what I found, in many cases the new SD book was more up to date.
