Very annoying - no photographs

Do any of you find it unhelpful and very annoying that many CL's don't have a few photographs ?

We often don't visit some due to the lack of Information and photographs. I'm sure we, and they sometimes miss out sometimes. It is so easy now to take and upload pictures these days and we get suspicious as to why there are none.

It is important to us that given the limited time we spend away that we can get it as suitable to us as we possibly can. We like lots of space and nice surroundings. We do find photographs and descriptions together the reviews are the way we choose our site.

What do others think?

Very annoying? No.

Lack of pics isn’t something I get annoyed about - why would I when it’s such a trivial thing?

I believe it’s the club who inserts the pics into the website and not a simple matter of CL owners uploading them. Whether the CL owners forward pics to the club is another matter.

The photographs can only be provided by the CL owner, I somehow doubt the Club has a roving photographer visiting all CL'swink. Some of the newer and more internet savvy CL owners like to use Facebook as a means of promoting their CL, although it would be surprising if such owners didn't also submit photos for the Club's website. I imagine there are a lot of older CL owners who might not be familiar with submitting photographs and I wonder if it is those CL's which don't have photos. One way round this might be to allow reviewers the option of uploading photographs? I agree with the OP that photographs do make a difference and better than flying blind so to speak.

Hi MrSambambles

We do try to encourage CL owners to provide photographs of their site so they can be uploaded on to the website. Our CL Advisors who visit the sites every year will also discuss it with the CL Owners and will take photographs on their behalf with the CL owners permission.

Some owners do not want pictures of their site on the website for many reasons and we must honor their wishes.

We are making it compulsory for new CL sites to have a picture on their website when they go live. This picture can be changed at a later date as many want to have vans on their site first so they can be in the photographs. Moving forward you will see more and more sites with photographs.

We will continue to encourage the existing sites without a photograph to send one in as we are aware many members will choose a site with photographs over those without.

Thanks

Maddie

Thank you for your comments. We are all different which reflect on what is important and helpful to some and not so much to others.

It is encouraging to know that photographs will be included in new CL details and we certainly support that. Thank you CLMaddie for bringing that to our attention.

It will certainly help us, together with other information available to choose a site more suitable to our likes.

"The photographs can only be provided by the CL owner".

I have sent in photographs for 2 CLs that I have stayed on that didn't have photos and my photo has been uploaded for both. Just checked and both are still the photo on display.

Sadly, lots of us do CL site reviews, but there is no way we can add a photograph to a review on this website.

It would be interesting - although I suspect nigh on impossible to achieve - to know what the take up is of CLs with a photograph as opposed to ones that don't have one. I know that when I am looking, if there isn't a photo or two, I don't give the site a second thought and move on to others that have.

I always take site descriptions with a large pinch of salt - for example the one that described ' wonderful views of Filey Brigg' - which after a recce one afternoon revealed that it could only be achieved by standing on the caravan roof!

Alan

I am glad to be proved wrong and pleased that your photos were accepted. I wonder how many others do the same or even knew that it was a possibility?
