Not very active forum...

I've rejoined the Club after quite a few years. The forums are not as active as they might be. Yes you can pay £15 to join more active groups but wouldn't it be good if this forum, which we have paid for after all, could become a little more active and responsive by members using it more. (Or maybe I have found it too hard to find what I'm looking for!?)

I saw both the posts about AO and another one about AO and Dogs. Right from the first post, somewhat inflammatory phrases were in use, so bound to end up in arguments. No surprise they were moderated really. 🤷‍♀️

You may not have seen it but it was posted on the closure of a thread started about adult only sites last week. It probably got zapped because the OP also dared to mention yapping dogs.

Posted on 11/09/2020 19:44

Ok fair enough (to it being there not the yapping dogs) but must have been a first then?

Well we all agree to abide by the guidelines and none of us are forced to join CT.

I've been on this forum a long time and I have never seen that statement written ever, could you post a link please SB?

Posted on 11/09/2020 19:50

As you asked nicely....

Link

No more inflammatory than posts about Dorset Knob biscuits which have also been censored  today. I quite enjoy them with some Blue Vinney rather than dunked in tea which is a bit neanderthal.

It all comes down to 'no bickering, name calling, disagreeing, use of inflammatory language, upsetting other peoples sensitivities etc. or you will be moderated.'

Thus producing a totally bland format for a forum.  Do not disagree!

History teaches us that nothing good ever comes of censorship. It’s sometimes uncomfortable when people can say (responsibly) what they think. To some those views are offensive, but to others it’s inspiring and a catalyst for change - some might feel this Club is in need of change!

All of us can decide what we’re offended by and avoid it. There are some on here who I fundamentally disagree with most of the time, but I have no objection whatsoever to them posting here as long as they accept that I’ll challenge them when I disagree - some of that might be robust, but we’re all big boys & girls here. I can’t see any circumstances in which I’d report a post.

Agree 100% with that - the forum might not be very active at the moment,  but I have been, walking various stretches of the SW coast path.  Haven't looked in on the forum much until tonight and I have to say that, having just looked at that closed AO thread anyone who thinks it was started for any reason other than provoking the, oh so usual, arguments is, frankly deluding themselves and I am surprised that any experienced users of this forum should attempt to defend it.

So are you saying that you think that particular thread was started for a genuine discussion? You obviously haven't been around on CT as long as I have, Bill! undecided

I may not have the benefit of your wisdom, but I’d be prepared to give them a go. Certainly wouldn’t offend me and I’ve got the choice to read/respond or not. What’s the problem?

The problem, Bill, is that "history" (as far as this forum is concerned) makes it entirely predictable where that particular thread would have gone and it's delusional to pretend otherwise. frown
