A number of specific questions have been raised about what might happen after 29 March 2019 when the UK leaves the European Union (EU). We've identified some information and advice for people travelling abroad with caravans and motorhomes in the hope that it will help you find out what impact Brexit may have on your holiday plans. You can find this here: Travelling after Brexit

We will also try and keep you updated with relevant information on this discussion and please feel free to share information and advice with each other. We do ask that no conversations about politics devhttps://www.caravanclub.co.uk/overseas-holidays/useful-information/travelling-after-brexit/elop - as you know this can often get heated! As such any political comments will be removed but we would really appreciate any constructive comments and information shared.

Any 90 days in 180 days constraint will affect a whole lot more than long-term caravaners. Think of all those who bought 'a place in the sun' over the past twenty years or so. I think there may be more of them than us nomads. Such a restriction may make many think it's time to sell up with the consequent impact on a country's economy. Spain & Portugal, whose economies are not the most robust, would be particularly hit if this became the case.

The new ETIAS scheme - with the 90 days in 180 stipulation - will not come into effect until 2021.

What is not clear is what happens in the intervening years and it would seem that much depends on whether we leave with a deal (and there is a transition period) and if we don't.

Even the official pages are unsure:

I have just tried to wade through the link W2G and I am more confused than ever especially regarding length of stay once ETIAS is introduced and whether visas for longer stays will be needed.

come what MAY i am off on the 22nd Mar, I am not going to worry about what I have and have not got .

Away for 3 months so hopefully all will be sorted when i return, only ever had my documents checked at the ports so not too bothered about what happens in country. Dog was only worry, worst case for him would be quarantine, which would be aweful, but £500 at the vets has rid us of those worries.

Good for you, but MAY will be long gone before we head to Europe in late summer! wink

Margaret and I were today discussing the idea of going to Europe this year as we have skipped a couple of years because of medical issues. Our first choice would be May and June but given all the uncertainty we have decided we will wait until the summer before making a decision about going in September if indeed we decide to go at all this year. I just wonder how many people are in a similar situation? It can't be good for the Clubs Overseas Touring Department!

We're chickening out of plans we had, David, though it wasn't with the caravan, it was a once in a lifetime trip involving flying, (which we usually avoid), in early April. The chance of air travel being fouled up just then means we're planning on the outer Hebrides this year, hopefully Euro travel when it's calmed down next year.
