Cayton Village

I know not all of you get the regular emails from the Club but I thought I would post a link to the refurbishment of Cayton Village near Scarborough. There are a couple of videos as well. See Link here. We enjoyed our stay there last year although we had some misgivings. However the upgrade looks to address most of those issues.

At a cost i understand of over £7  million it would need to be really special ,it will need that sort of money spent  on the Bridport site (this year?)  And site staff pulling their hair out trying to get some basic repairs and upgrades to their sitesundecided

The area around Scarborough is lovely, but we know of far nicer places to stay. It’s a site that has no interest to us, much like the one at Bridlington. Probably be a firm favourite with families though, so maybe Club looking at future proofing.

it appears that a lot of money had to be spent on it to bring it up to standard. I assume it will have SP so I'll probably go there.

In a way that is the problem with the site before refurbishment, nearly every hardstanding pitch was serviced! Having said that I think there will be probably be a greater number of serviced pitches depending on how much they change the layout. It seems the Laurels area is going to stay more or less as it was, except for a new toilet block, so I can't see them taking services out But you never know!

I think this will become a very popular site with members. For us, we like to leave the motorhome on site, there is a half hourly bus service from outside the gate. There are a couple of places in the village where you can get a meal and there are also local shops so almost everything you need. Those that prefer smaller, quieter sites won't like the size, which is massive I accept.

I do wonder whether it is money well spent. It's not as if the club is badly represented in the area.

I would have preferred to see a few ordinary sites getting the upgrades they need with the club replacing those non facility sites that have been lost. These sites that do not need toilet blocks wouldn't have to be huge and would be popular with a lot of their core membership. We've always found them to be reasonably well used by the membership.

I can't say we liked it there, it was a convenient short stay for us but with two big static sites alongside I would imagine the club will put in some similar units otherwise it's a big site to fill. There are more attractive villages and sites in the area.

We stayed at Bridlington site after cayton bay was purchased and others in the club including staff were puzzled by the  acquisition unless it was thought there is a problem at he Scarborough site and it was an "insurance "for the future?

I imagine the opportunity to buy sites in the UK come along fairly infrequently. We have used both Bridlington and Cayton Village and from a location point of view prefer the latter. Scarborough is so much nicer than Bridlington and much larger. Another issue is that so many current Club sites are leased and as we know the Club won't invest members money unless they can be sure they will get a return on investment. I suspect the majority of Club owned sites have already has some investment.

It's not what I have heard from site staff even those on long leasesundecided

But then if looking at the old directory all sites are owned by the clubsurprised

I would also think the Cayton site might be future proofed for building land in the village? So it's possibly a good land purchase.
