I read elsewhere that C&CC are closing some sites and cancelling people’s bookings due to staff shortages. Sure enough, it's true and they've updated their website today. I hope nobody here is affected.

You might say that I couldn't  possibly commentwink

As I posted earlier those of our generation who often complain of being "ripped off" ?cannot it seems come into the modern day prices and salaries  that have a very large part to play in  what some consider a "rip off" with prices cool

When my children were small we had lots of good family time in the "corner of farm fields" but we were paying just a couple of pounds a night for the privilege. I dont think its unreasonable to expect rather more for club prices and however unpalatable some here find it it's a very British thing to be paying premium prices for basic offerings.

Yet when you had the choice of various sites for your travels you chose all club sites, and in fact you chose one of the most expensive sites on the network?

You appear to be setting yourself up as the arbiter of what is a premium price and what isn't? The same for what a basic offering (which as said you were happy to pay many times).

The basic offering was significantly discounted this year. It is going to be a bit of a shock after March 22, especially if deposits are introduced at a similar time.

It seems from conversations  quite a few members  that are touring more recently,  seem to not realise the prices on sites recently are at those rates because of cheaper vat rates, and it is only temporary

surprised,

There are a couple of upsides to what has been posted

1.  Sites have been busier so far with staycations ,and the now relaxation of travel restrictions, some that still have not realised what a beautiful country they live in May now go over the channel and free up pitchescool

2 Those who complain about rip of Britain  who have stayed a on sites and taken advantage of the reduced VAT rates ,May next year not use sites so much, and which again will free up pitches for those of us who have had difficulty ,,getting ,at times pitcheswink

Ps that is off course if the clubs staffing levels do not deteriorate any furthersurprised

There are certainly many elements of our country that are, indeed, beautiful.

unfortunately, the infrastructure and prices aren't two of them😕

we've had an enjoyable few months touring since sites reopened and have embraced our time in the UK....but roads, roads, roads (appalling quality interspersed with 'upgrades' and traffic lights) and traffic volumes, dreadful driving and stupid speeding all contribute to an unpleasant experience.

we've certainly missed the contrast of wide open, straight roads with billiard top surfaces, far less traffic and the ease of pulling in somewhere for a safe, quiet break...

we've also missed the people and the sites and towns....culture generally...

perhaps all our wardens might be 'over there' now, hence the shortage😀

Are you saying we get ripped off

Posted on 14/10/2021 10:23

Personally I would say "Yes!"

Club sites have become expensive especially for those of us who live on state pensions. It's the reason we choose CL's as they offer much better value.

I wonder if you have replied to the right poster and/or even read my post as I'm struggling to see how your answer relates in any way to mine??

You are saying it pretty obvious that the club runs its site on a shoestring? I hardly think so personally. but perhaps you could suggest how it? I've just come back from a very large multiple set of wardens sites, two large and refurbished shower blocks with disabled, toddler, and family rooms, electric tractors, games rooms, play area, hardly minimalist at all I would say? Most club sites are like this?

Why you've gone on about swing and roundabouts of costs touring over there I have no idea at all? I never mentioned touring? I merely said that it is pointless to compare prices here and over there. I pay £3/4/5 for a costa coffee and 1.5 euros for the same in Italy. I also never mentioned any right or wrong way either yet you have brought this up as if I did?

As I said it is pointless to compare prices from the UK to Europe, pay up or not, simple really.

Corners......I point you to your post above.   You ask, or say, "Most  club sites  are like this?"

I am replying that that this is not the case.    Some, even many,  may be, but not most, especially not in Scotland!

It would not surprise me ,as even a conversation a few minutes ago , this site is short staffed from November no assistants extending their contracts,, so no Xmas celebrations ,undecided

And one of the longstanding perks of working long hours(still),for not Good salaries in some grades of sites ,has been reduced to new employees, only available when working for the club, where as in the past it extended to the period of employment after retirement, surprised
