I read elsewhere that C&CC are closing some sites and cancelling people’s bookings due to staff shortages. Sure enough, it's true and they've updated their website today. I hope nobody here is affected.

C&CC site closures

Back in the mists of antiquity ( Page 27 actually), Corners provided a couple of photos for comparison between a club site (presumably Durham Grange) and a CL - Baxter Wood Farm.

Leaving aside the obvious price advantage of £7.50 per night, the CL is, as Corners admitted, within walking distance of the centre of Durham. The CAMC site is three miles away and right next to a busy motorway junction. Apart from the absence of HGVs and, obviously Joe Public, Durham Grange would appear to have all the surrounding ambience of a motorway service area. So you know which I chose when stopping at Durham earlier this year. Ambience, the CL had it in spades.

Not entirely sure what any of this has to do with C&CC site closures due to staffing.

We see in another thread that a few CAMC sites are closing due to staff shortages. I wonder if many of us would work on those sites as volunteer wardens to keep them open if the call went out?

Personally, I think I'd want firm assurance of prompt back up from HQ to deal with problems arising before I'd contemplate doing it.

I know what I would do. I’d suggest some of the folks who work at HQ give it a go, a lot of them have outfits. They could show true willing and keep the cash rolling in, not let down the punters. Existing Wardens could give them a hand, make sure they are doing it right😇😁 It’s always good to get on the job experience, puts dealing with complaints (staff and visitors) into perspective.

And before anyone asks, yes it was something I used to do back in another life, hard work at times, great fun at times, but the experience was priceless👍

Where would any warden live? I think you forget that wardens do have some private facilities attached to the office. They don’t live totally in their LV. Obviously anyone not wishing to do that wouldn’t take on the role.

Great idea, TDA. It would give HQ staff experience at the sharp end plus help the club get through this patch.

Actually it was Troutbeck Head in the lakes. You don't get mountains like that in Durham.

I didn't talk about location at all, only to illustrate that club sites are not in any way like the car parks that posters are saying, the car parks I use don't look at all like that.

yes I did that too, Every year the senior staff would help out in various support roles. I remember I did a shift for a week on serving meals at dinner time, along with other senior staff doing other jobs, it made us realise what the true problems were and what solutions would work. I looked (I am told) quite good in white overalls and white trilby style hat.
