Cirencester Park access road

We were out walking near Cirencester today so thought we'd divert to wander past the club site to see how things looked.

Well, not sure if this is good news or bad, but the access road has been diverted..

So - good news - for anyone with a pothole aversion - it's been resurfaced and the tarmac is now billiard table smooth (apart from the inevitable speed humps!)

Not such good news - instead of a long straight road with plenty of wide stretches to allow for units to pass it is now very narrow and winding, with large boulders each side at the entrance and just a couple of small lay bys for passing, so heaven help you if you meet another unit coming in or out.

I can't see any practical alternative to the "off by 12 and no arrivals before 1" arrangement. We'll just have to wait and see - well, not us obviously! wink

I see in a recent review that a member has cancelled bookings due to the new road. Seems once was enough for this person who describes it thus: "If you wish to design a road to deter large vehicles and caravans, this would be it!"

Obviously not a regular CL user then.

Like CY we have ventured along some hair raising approach roads hoping we don't meet anyone coming the other way but once on the CL the unit doesn't move until the end of your trip. One advantage of the caravan over the Motorhome. It hasn't put us off going to these places though and I can't ever remember a site where the approach road has been a factor in not returning.

Been ther done that, it is not only CLs, what about access to the Cheddar, Ilfracombe,Wiilingcote and Damage Barton sites. I'm sure there are others.

FYI there is a video of the modified road >here<

If I was still a member the West Runton C&CC site is one I'd not return to because of the road.yell

That one must be the worst ever, not been back since the early 90s, surely they must have improved it by now?

Yes Cheddar site is appalling. Not been to the others.

I was wondering how a supermarket delivery, now that they are allowed, would get on trying to get into Cheddar when there's a few outfits waiting to get in.

We walked up it last year a d it was not much improved from when we stayed there about 5 yrs ago. The road doesn't belong to the club but is owned by the NT who only maintain it.

No access problems to the CL opposite the Cheddar CC site 😎

It's been a while since we've been to Damage Barton, but I can't remember the access road being particularly difficult 🤔

I remember the general roads to/from St David's club site being on the narrow side

Its only really difficult in peak season because of the narrow bits but there is plenty of visibility.
