Cirencester Park access road

We were out walking near Cirencester today so thought we'd divert to wander past the club site to see how things looked.

Well, not sure if this is good news or bad, but the access road has been diverted..

So - good news - for anyone with a pothole aversion - it's been resurfaced and the tarmac is now billiard table smooth (apart from the inevitable speed humps!)

Not such good news - instead of a long straight road with plenty of wide stretches to allow for units to pass it is now very narrow and winding, with large boulders each side at the entrance and just a couple of small lay bys for passing, so heaven help you if you meet another unit coming in or out.

I can't see any practical alternative to the "off by 12 and no arrivals before 1" arrangement. We'll just have to wait and see - well, not us obviously! wink

So, conclusion is that Club Sites need wide, smooth, almost straight access roads, with no one else on them to access “the adventure”. šŸ¤”

Those travelling to Start Bay and other sites have lived to tell the tale and that's just the local village roads....wink

We once towed our van through China Clay territory near St Austell. Anything to avoid hold ups at Goss Moor. Those were the days.......šŸ¤£

No that is not the case for me as many sites that I have used do not have such. One issue for me is that this site generates foot traffic and the access is needlessly poor. That needless is, for me , the issue. If CMC don't care about safety of pedestrians, cyclists, buggy pushers, mobility scooters at this location then I don't care to use the site.

I consider myself competent but, in this matter, I cannot say the same of CMC

Has anybody thought about getting their OH to get out at entrance to road and walk some 50 or so yds in front doing a bit of traffic management, afterall we nearly all have mobile phones so 2 way comms is possible, so much fuss over a road you would probably only take your caravan down twice in any one visit, MH might be slightly different and if you travel solo could be a problem, but most solo travellers seem to have smaller units anyway cool

We may never know the saga of how we got here with this position regarding the access road. My understanding is that the campsite is on land owned by the Bathurst Estate. The land the old and the new access roads are on is owner by Cirencester College so they seem to call the shots. The new access road is not good for pedestrians but in fairness neither is the road from the site towards Cirencester Park. Perhaps the Club and the Bathurst Estate could come to an agreement to put a gate in the corner of the site near the first cattle grid to aid walkers going to the Park? Before going to the site last Sunday I had a look at my old dash cam footage and it is easy to forget how bad the old road was. My suggestion to the Club would be to have a discussion with the College about converting the old access road into footpath/cycleway with access at each end which would overcome the concerns about pedestrians getting caught up with traffic, not only from the club site but also the cricket/tennis clubs. I think it would also be an advantage to College students as well?

Agree to some extent re the pitches. There are a lot of narrow ones and some with undesirable slopes. The area known as millionaires row is fine, as is the huge grass area and all the new service pitches,

Just crossed Cirencester of my list of sites, can just see all those smug faces of those on millionaires row looking down on the peasants on the grass pitches with cars parked on the A frame ,
